Exige S1 up for sale (maybe !!)

Hi chaps, thinking of upgrading to a s2 exige but need some good loot for my dearest girl to help me decide. Would it be fair to ask 25000 for the following or am i pushing poo up hill, especially following the recent post about us lot price fixing our cars due to their ‘collector’ status.
Silver (but lighter than most, may be due to her being a late Dec 2001 (51 plate) and having s2 elise colours offered to her.
190 with air con.
Motorsport discs and pads.
17000 miles
3 owners(first being lotus director (who chose the colour)
Sport cat
Polished like you would not belive (even the engine is sparkling!!)
Four point racing harness.
New mot and a048 boots
etc.
Would appreciate any advise re price ie the lowest i should take.
Regards,
Jas

Probably the wrong time of the year to sell it.
looking at previous posts of people selling recently I think you price is too high, look at previous post of cars that have sold have gone for silly money (under 20k)

Sorry if its not what you wanted to hear

I think all S1 Exiges should be worth 25k at least.

Now what can I spend all that appreciation on

I think all S1 Exiges should be worth 25k at least.

I think so aswell but in reality

In reality then 18k to 20k.

Can’t see why they would drop to 16-17 unless the seller is desparate for quick cash.

Probably more if its orange, but its the wrong time of the year to sell

When you consider the ‘WOW!’ looks it gets from people when driving through towns this proves the limited amount in the UK, so if someone really wants one then a high asking price would have to be paid.
It is not that i want to let my baby go unless i got mega money from it (but then again i have managed it to 17000 miles, no HGF, no engine failures just little starting issues.) Lucky or normal?

Supply and demand
They are definately worth the money but people get desperate to sell so prices come down

when they are hard to find they’ll be worth more money but at the moment there are a few for sale for under 20k

id say your going to be looking at 18500 private if its a mint car. Dealers might get up to 21500. Im looking to buy another one but because i want to change the engine, suspension, brakes, put the motorsport splitter and engine cover on im just going to buy the Elise and a motorsport shell it works out cheaper by about 4000.

25k!

No - the other guys here have it pretty much spot on.

The price fixing idea wasn’t entirely serious, but it would be good!

The Elise market seems to be pretty dire at the moment, but S1 Exiges still seem to be clinging grimly to their residuals. Unusual to see any private cars over 20k these days though.
That said, if you’re prepared to wait and not desperate to sell due to “other projects” or circumstance, then who knows who may come along?

Whatever - good luck. Post some pics somewhere and we can have a butchers!

Cheers,
Alex.

I paid 22.5k for mine …privately!

Hope it’s a nice one!

Better be at that price

Pack it up you two! Some of us are proud to have paid over 30k for our pride and joys!

Ian

Hope it’s a nice one!

It looks brand new, i’ll be suprised if theres a better one out there other than the one at Paul Matty’s for 26,995 with 1000 miles on it!

Its not the best time of year to be selling but when I was looking to buy mine last August, 3 sold between 22-25K!
Yours sounds mint so dont give it away, mint ones are a rare find as a lot I looked at suffered from track day wear and too many stone chips!
If youre prepared to wait you WILL get your price, honest!
PM me if you like any more details but dont give it away…bye the way have you seen the S2 at my local main dealers, Formula One in Newcastle, for 23,995 with 3,200 miles on the clock?
Any way why do you want to swap???
Keep the S1!

Hope it’s a nice one!

Just teasing. I remember seeing your car for sale and thinking it was a minter. Hey, maybe we can talk the market up!

It is a belter but im beginning to think maybe I paid over the odds for it?

Having said that even every reciept, letter, brochure and correspondance with Lotus including the original factory key and key fob had its own little folder. Even the unfitted standard exhaust system still shrink wrapped came with the car, the first owner was meticulous and the second one owns a performace car part shop (www.revolution.eu.com) so he looked after it to the enth degree too!

Don’t worry about it, just enjoy the car. There’s nothing wrong with paying top money for something because it’s perfect and exactly what you want. Better that than paying less for someting you’re ultimately unhappy with.

To be honest, no two S1s are alike anymore anyway, so judging the market is a slightly haphazard affair at the best of times!

Guys

Find it bizarre that people think the car is clinging to it’s residuals - on what basis?

Most S1 cars are either for sale under 20K or are not selling.

The market is crap at the moment - the car deserves to be worth more than that, I agree - but will only fetch what the market is willing to pay. That’s why you can get a VERY nice Boxster S on a 51 or 02 plate for around 20K at the moment, no-one has any money.

My car just sold, after 6 months of advertising for considerably less than 20K. It was not cosmetically perfect, but was Chrome Orange and had a very well sorted Dave Andrews engine with less than 2,000 miles on it - but that’s all the market was prepared to pay.

I’m not trying to start a war of words here, but experience of selling one tells me the cars are neither as sought after or worth as much in the current market as we owners would like to think.

I am just about to order a new Ford Mustang from the US - so another car whose value will fall through the floor when I get it !!!

Cheers

Mark
