exige s1 twin tail pipe

ok heres a question . i notice some s1 exiges have a twin tail pipe on the exhaust and some just have the oval tip. whats the difference. the exige i had before had a single oval tip. and when i took the cat out it popped and banged like a good un. would this still happen on a twin tail pipe and how easy is it to switch a twin tail pipe to oval if needs be

Twins are generally the std orig exhaust. Ovals are often the (noisy) Janspeed sports exhaust.

Changing will do little to the engine/performance and be quite tricky unless the exhaust’s design allows for it.

I’ve got a Janspeed supersport twin pipe. It did pop and bang delightfully until I put the Cat back on recently. I do miss the sounds but not the slight misfire at 4,000 revs that appeared when the exhaust was first fitted.

Were they both factory options?

Agreed made the old VHPD sound bloody good !

Borderline at many tracks…My Janspeed Decatted was 100+ depending if I could get away with lower revs.

Replacing the CAT lowered decibels and reduced the fun.
But no probs so far with track noise

Fine here in NZ… Decatted Janspeed fine everywhere at 8000RPM

ok and do decatted twin tail pipe pop and bang on overrun or does it have to be oval tip

Tip should have little to do with pops and bangs… it’s more a byproduct of a less restrictive muffler and the absence of a cat.

Generally the tips have little or no effect on the sound.

so is it easy to achieve. how would i do it? whats the answer. take the cat off. and…

The sound of my popping exhaust is music to my ears but unfortunately my neighbours don’t share my sentiments entirely!!!

My lawn isn’t big enough!!!

how do i do it then

Pops and Bangs… great fun and yep turns heads etc, but they are a result of overfuelling, especially on part or lifted throttle, so the unburnt fuel ignites spontaneously somewhere in the exhaust system! This is what can destroy the silencer over a period of time as those explosions cause pressure waves that do the baffles no good at all!

My VHPD did this a beaut until I fitted an Emerald and had it properly mapped by Dave Walker. Now, even with warmer 1227 cams, it now does not do this, but still makes all the right noises in other places!.. with a de-cat and Janspeed exhaust at 8000 RPM!

Ran at Donny on a ‘silenced’ day, but was far too loud unless I lifted past all the meters… made the day quite boring, so the unsilenced day in Feb was a great relief and bloody good fun! (Can we PLEASE have more of these!!!)

Incidentally, with the Emerald, I am also getting many more MPG… not that I really care since not many miles are done, but reckon on about 230 miles a tank instead of 160 - 180 beforehand!

Tailpipe oval or twin makes no difference… it is just the bolt on bit at the end of the pipe for visual effect… though personally I DO LIKE the big oval!!!

how do i do it then

im gona take the cat off and see what its like. what about finding an aftermarket janspeed are they the oval tip exhausts i see. just want it to sound like my old one used to popping and banging really loud

I got my Janspeed Supersport (and a de-cat pipe) through Demon Tweeks. I was able to specify twin pipes. No probs with delivery or fitting.

has any one took the cat off there standard exige and what does it sound like opinions please!?
