Exige S1 ownership . .

Just glanced at our household calendar and noticed that Mrs Thommo
(no fan of the “too hot, too noisy . . .etc yellow car”) hd carefully written a note of something I said over breakfast (on September 2, to be exact).
During some discussion about cars and finances, I uttered the following about the Exige:
“It’s a very economical, sensible vehicle”.
Cue much derisive laughter from Mrs Thommo who had just recently endured an exhaust-fume-filled trip to and from the Nyloc Whitby meet.
Anyone else got any stories about trying to justify the Exige to partners/wife ?

I have cited that my Exige S2 is far , far more economical than my previous car which was a 4 seater saloon.

Admittedly it did have a 6.2l V8 but thats just splitting hairs really.

I omitted to mention that our discussion followed the sale of my RS4 Avant . . . which was considerably more expensive to run than the Exige as you might expect

Quite the opposite for me @thommo, earlier today I messaged my Mrs to tell her I’d just sold some stuff on eBay, she responded with:

we need to shift more stuff to go into your car repair fund

Not the response I was expecting, but looks like permission granted to order more parts and get it back on the road! :grinning:

Mrs Fish loves the Exige but I do have to hide bills and receipts, and she doesn’t know it’s value.

With her driving a 100% Kia and me getting a Polestar 2 in two weeks, it makes the Exige carbon neutral :slightly_smiling_face:

Most cost next to nothing as they only go to the mot station once a year.

Yes just saw that wow. Well clearly a case of not wanting to sell it or maybe self sacrifice to try to lift the value of all S1 on our behalf…

Sort of to your theme. From the start my wife took to turning a blind eye to there always being a “weekend” car knocking around. Which has been a theme since we met, always something fun in the garage to partner something dull but family practical on the drive. The weekend cars came and went but basically a one in one out policy.

After I brought my current S1 (and she has never been a fan, queue, smelly, noisy, uncomfortable, impossible to get in/out type comments…) I determined to buy a V12 Vantage which she did approve of and latterly found the right car.

I subsequently brought it and promised my wife faithfully that I’d keep to the soft rule of one one in one out and the Exige would go, but given it was Feb I needed to wait until the Spring/Summer as being a sunny days car id not get a good price in the winter, but once things picked up I’d definitely sell it…That was 5 years ago…

After the first year she seemed to forget

I’m still loving the S1 after 18 years. My drive yesterday was fantastic. The sound, the drama — even the entirely new sound in the background I’d never heard before. What could possibly replace it for the money!?

I can pretty much make Mrs.G quiet as I’ve owned my car for over 10 years and I could probably sell it for more than I paid. Sure I’ve spent money on it servicing and maintaining it but in that time my wife would have had at least 3 cars and we’ve probably lost near on £10k on each one. Discussion over

She is a fan of the M2, The v6 Exige, and some boring Audi’s. She will jump in the air from happiness when the car is exchanged for one of those.

Already told her that it is either an Ariel Atom or an Exige V6 and that the Ariel comes before the V6. she just nods her head…
