Exige s1 - New exhaust manifold

Hello everyone!

On my Exi the original exhaust manifold has a hole. I’ve already repaired it 1 year ago, but now it’s the same problem…
I just went for a ride and I almost died breathing the gas!!!

I would like to buy some steel manifold. Do you suggest me something please??
I fit a Janspeed supersport silencer and my VHPD has just a little electronic tuning .that’s it !

Thank you ! !

PS. maybe not so loud…

I went for an Elise Parts fancy manifold and then took it to Zircotec to have it coated in black. You can then throw the heat shield in the bin which gives more air circulation around the engine bay.

I have used an EP one in the past, which where made by Chris Tullet and are very nice. No idea if they are still made by the same person. Can’t say about the noise as I changed the box at the same time, again a Tullet EP one.

I have a JDS repackable silencer, I think that was made by Tullett as well. Really good product.

Worth saying that you might need to modify the undertray to accommodate the EP manifold. The primaries extend right under the engine. It’s a quality piece of kit though.

Many thanks to all of you for the help !
So, the EP manifold you are suggesting, is this one: EP Stepped Bore Manifold | EliseParts Right?
They say it’s easy to fit because it’s not a unique solid piece. About this, I’m not as practical as you british drivers, but do you think can be really easily fitted without getting the engine down?
Obviously not only with a standard jack, but need the workshop “bridge” (don’t know the real name in english, just translated straight from italian).
And about nuts and studs? easy to fit?

About the undertray, EP says that just need 2 spacers. What is the other solution to make more space?

@Fluffy : you mean a black coat as a protection against corrosion, even if it’s stainless ?

GRAZIE & CIAO ! ! !

Google Zircotec my friend. It keeps the heat in the exhaust rather than radiating in to the engine bay. This will also speed the gas flow up.

As for the under tray, I cut mine and also played around with spacers. At the same time I lowered the rear tray at the back with spacers which gives the engine bay air a way to exit.

I never have any heat problems.

As for working on the car, as long as your methodical and think then you can do everything with s low lift jack and 4 axle stands.

Superfast reply!! Thank you!!
I’ve just checked out about Zircotec, ther’s a factory that do that treatment also here…not so far away from my home. Could be interesting !!
I already lowered a little the diffuser, even if the best solution it would be to cut the fibreglass behind foglight and reverse gear light. But it’s a shame on an original Exige s1 body I think !! So, i work with spacers…
About the jack, that’s perfect ! Thank, it seems not so difficult!

Last consideration. I was wondering about the price; surely well made, but the EP one it’s pretty expensive considering vat and shipping too. Do you have any other option?! I see the ES Larini (big and small bore).
Or do someone know if ther’s an original around?! Because sincerly I’m swapping mine because it’s cracked, not because I want to improve performance (even if it’s always good ehhe  )

CIAO !

You could try Tullett direct. It’s good because of the slip joints but you will need to add springs or else when you do a standing start the slip joints will pop out.

I wouldn’t cut any of the body.

I think I have some pictures on photo bucket. I’ll try and see if I can find them for you.

Try this:

Looks like the number of options is reducing as 2Bular has now dropped all S1 K-Series exhaust units other than replacement cats.

For the spacers under the tray, just join a stack of big washers use them on the big bolts that hold the tray on.

The EP stuff may not be cheap but it is good quality. Call Geary and see if they are still made by Chrus Tullet.

Or search M5 M6 M8 spacers on eBay. You can get one piece stainless or alloy spacers that are easier to fit and look quality.

Thanks to all of you guys !
I still didn’t fix the problem. I’m going to mechanic on next wednesday, lift up the car and see where is the hole!
I think in the manifold, like 2 years ago. But it could be somewhere else (I hope). Then go for a decision!

Many thanks again to all of you !!

GRAZIE!

Much nicer, I must get some.

Finally, the problem is not as worse as I thought!
Lifted the car, engine on and…a lot of smoke from the flexible section ! I’ve already got a new one…when ready I fit it, hoping this was the only leak !

Thanks again to you all for the precious help !!
