I posted the following information already on Seloc but it may be useful to repeat it here:
I searched around for a tool to read out the orginal VHPD ECU sensor readings, error codes, etc.
The ECU is produced by EFI just for Lotus and only used on the Esprit V8, Exige S1 and 340 R. So it is pretty rare and not much knowledge around.
Although some say the ECU is not OBD2 compliant it does offer the OBD2 protocol ISO9141-2. I managed to communicate with the ECU using the (older)
AutoXray 6000 EZ-Scan tool.
Using the tool I’m able to reset and read error codes including freeze frame data that has been captured when the error has been set.
In addition the following live data can be monitored:
02 fuel system 1 state
03 fuel system 2 state
04 load value %
05 coolant temp °C
06 short term fuel trim 1 %
07 long term fuel trim 1 %
08 short term fuel trim 2 %
09 long term fuel trim 2 %
10 MAP sensor kPa
11 engine RPM
12 vehicle speed km/h
13 ignition timing advance in degrees
14 intake air temp °C
15 throttle position %
…
21 oxygen sensor 1 voltage
22 short term fuel trim 1 %
Some of the settings are organized in two banks or groups which makes no sense on the Rover K. It may be caused by the fact that the software has been initially developed for the Esprit V8.
It should be possible to use other OBD2 scanners but it has to be checked. A cheap scanner I used to readout the ECU of my Elise S2 111S were not able to communicate with the Exige’s ECU. In any case it is very useful to monitor the sensor readings that are actual seen by the ECU when chasing engine trouble.
