Just after your thoughts really…
Has anyone gone from a BMW M3 CSL to an EXIGE S 243bhp or the other way around. What was your thoughts on both.
Cheers in advance.

There is a thread on it somewhere try a search.
Myself and DaveP went from CSL’s to Exiges, although Dave to an S1. Don’t regret it for track work but the road/Nordschleife experience isn’t as rewarding IMO.
Yep, do find the CSL really flatters your driving and gives great confidence.
Yes the CSL was very flattering, now I am really slow!!!
Here is a thread on it.
Thanks Damon, some interesting comments. I have had 8 Lotus 2 being Exiges…S1 and NA S2…and must say I find the CSL as much fun as any of them on track…All brilliant cars.
Can not make my mind up on weather to sell for an Exige S with performance pack. Been offered a good deal and going to make mind up this week…Just don’t want to make the wrong one. Lots of owners end up wishing they didn’t sell the CSL and prices are on the up as well…Ah well will just have to have a drive on the weekend and see what I think.
Yeah I reckon the new V8 M3 being a bit heavey and soft from what I have heard and read, wont do the values of E46 CSL’s any harm at all!!!
Having driven both around the NS they are completely diff animals. The CSL is the rawer car, but the E92 is an awesome car. The engine is sublime, would have one as a road car.
Just out of interest this is rthe car I’m interested in at JCT in Leeds…Was it a memebers on here…
Never driven an e90, but most CSL owners who have wouldn’t swap their CSL for one…different cars though. Must get a drive as every time I see one they do appeal. Imagine the engine is awesome for every day use…but then you would have to go a long way to beat the noise of a CSL…
Andy, the noise from inside the V8 M3 isn’t a patch on the sound from inside the CSL - worlds apart and that’s a big issue !!
Just been to the ring and there were 6+ csl’s there. When they went past me the noise was awesome, only bettered on the day by a gallardo and a california.
Any rich chaps on here want to buy me a csl, I will cut your grass for a year.

Was that with the guys from the CSL register…They have just come back from the Ring. Some great pics on the www.cslregister.com
I had an M3 CSL and it’s a great car, although I personally wouldn’t buy another. Mainly because it is too much of a compromise for my needs. On track it is quick, not far off the GT3 I had, however, it is still a road car, and you can feel the weight, also it is heavy on consumables. On road it is not a car I would want to use every day - far too tiring! I have an S1 Exige Honda (soon to be SC) and for me it is so much more fun - it is light, nimble and fast, and I look forward to it every time I drive it. For everyday I drive 123d coupe, which suits me.
I suppose it depends on what your needs are…?

Yep, I think it was them. They were going well at the 'ring.

Interesting …
I wonder how much of a difference there would be (honda’d S1 vs CSL) if you had spent that money doing the CSL up. I bet it would be quicker on most circuits that the exige. There was a guy who had an E46 M3 at Rockingham recently and he had spent 10K getting it track prepared, it was very very quick even against my S2 elise Honda SC car.
Spend money doing the CSL up… doing what exactly? It had AP’s front and rear, didn’t bother with the suspension, and the exhaust is a waste of time unless you like the sound. You can do bugger all to the engine, unless you SC it, which I wouldn’t do The main way to get speed, is to lighten the car, i.e. remove a lot of the interior. If I wanted to do that I would be better off buying a dedicated race car - like a cup car or even a radical.
A well driven S1 with a Honda SC will be quicker than CSL, that I know. However I am not really bothered either way, for me it’s just about having fun, but IMO the CSL is too much of a compromise.
Don’t get me wrong I loved the CSL, I just wouldn’t buy another - it’s not special enough.
My NA Honda S1 is a lot quicker on track than my old CSL with Intrax and APs.
The Exige was as quick as the CSL around Oulton Park before I put the Honda in it.
… not to mention that it’s about 3 times cheaper to track, which means more track time.
.removed.
Bugger, missed that! I wonder what you said…?

If thats the case then the guy I saw at Rockingham had done more than he was saying. Unless he was on slicks, which I didnt check at the time.

I was explaining my point but it could have been taken in the wrong way and I cant be bothered to have an argument. Lazy but the truth.
