Firstly my apologies if this has been covered many times before.
My cars currently a 220 spec with a Quicksilver backbox , Pipercross VIS intake & a Pro alloy intercooler / cold air intakes.
Over the winter I’m looking to stick a 2bular manifold and sports cat on as well as a 3 pass rad /top mount fans etc.
I’m now a little confused as I was going to take the car to Lotus Silverstone for the 260 upgrade but I’m not sure if that’s the best option with the different intake and manifold? Would a custom map be better with a new fuel pump / injectors? Ive done some reading through old posts and it seems the ecu will " learn " itself to a degree. Just want to make sure as I want to get it booked in around the time it goes in for the oil cooler recalls.
I’m not 100% sold on the Pipercross vis but it was on the car when I bought it, what do people here recommend? I was thinking a trd Mod for the original box?
Hi Kieran
I think if you use a different manifold and intake you need a custom map because you will change the AFR settings which will make the car run lean.
The 260 upgrade from Lotus is very good and if you are going to use the car on road and track is ideal. I recommend that you have a drive in a 260 then make your mind up if that’s going to suit your needs first.
You wont get told to do a search on here mate, we love an old chestnut. The only issue you’ll have with intake and exhaust will be noise. You’ll certainly achieve more power and it’ll sound the nuts but will be over 100 but under 105dbs. Had I an SC car (yak ) I’d be happy with 240ish tbh, maybe save a little weight. Actually buy my close ratio gearbox and you’ll be sorted!
260 is close to the limit for drivetrain. .
any more and the risk of expensive repairs becomes greater.
A 2bular manifold gives more torque and power but also puts you closer to repair bills
Might also be worth going with 2bular back box too. Before I upgraded to 260 I had a quicksilver exhaust and after a few months it lost so much packing I was at 107db.
Might take the pipercross off and buy a standard airbox and trd kit for it. Then forget the manifold and run the 260. I’m sure it will be more than enough. In the past ive always replaced entire exhaust systems on previous cars for maximum benefit.
Jonny you know I would if I could. Had I not just been broken by a wedding.
