Has anyone fitted these? Do they increase the cabin vibration levels significantly?
I’ll tell you next week hopefully, I just took delivery of a set of uprated motorsport engine mounts on Friday for my NA Exige. Should be able to fit them fairly quickly.
Cheers Wes, I’ll look forward to your views…
I am using a set of inserts I got off ebay, very good with not much extra vibration and very easy to fit
I had mine fitted at the factory;
They have calmed down somewhat now or am I just getting used to them?
Harvey.
Just finished fitting the new motorsport engine mounts now. I haven’t driven it yet but sat in the car at idle there’s a significant increase in vibration through the seat. It may well settle down a bit with some initial running in. The good news is no engine rock, which is what I wanted.
Fitting them was as troublesome as I expected! You need different length 14mm sockets to get to the front bolts where you can achieve a full 1/10th of a rotation of the ratchet. Once removed I didn’t have an exact sized press tool (e.g. huge socket) to push the old bushes out via their steel ring so I pushed the rubber through then inserted a hacksaw to gently cut through the steel inner ring that’s bonded to the rubber bush, it then tapped out easily. While pressing the old bush out I slightly bent the front steel mount (made of swiss cheese)… therefore the fiddly blind holes didn’t line up with engine again when remounting. Took about 3 attempts to realign the bracket on the press before it lined up again.
Overall it’s well worth doing and not so bad if you are patient, a skill I am developing with age!
After watching a scary video of engine movement i order’d some powerflex jobbies myself. Not looking forward to doing the job but has to be worth it.
How long did it take wes?
Jay
Probably took about 4 hours with the removal of the old bushes. If you have bought the powerflex inserts then you don’t need to remove the old bushes as they slot into the voids in the existing rubber bush. The job should be a lot easier. Make sure you have a long and short 14mm socket before you start as it’s difficult to access the front mount bolts which are recessed inside the webs of the mounting bracket and hard up against the bulkhead.
After paying 100 each for the lotus ones guess who made them on the packaging?

Ferrari !?
Powerflex?
Yep, would be 40 if you could buy them direct from powerflex
This is the other type that I got of ebay and fitted about 4 months ago.
Easier to fit, just had to lube it up with the supplied tube of copper slip and shove it in
As wes says, vibration is more noticeable especially at tick over but I don’t find it intrusive. Gear shift is a lot better, getting into second from high revs used to be a struggle now it just slots in fine.
Took the car for a drive with the new mounts and they are excellent. The increase in vibration at idle soon goes when driving, even at low speed. The reduced powertrain ‘tip in’ makes the car feel much tighter and gear shifts feel more positive. It can’t be that harsh as my 10 month old daughter was asleep in the passenger seat after 2 miles.
Same as the ones I got from fleabay, they seem up to the job ok

These are also the ones i order’d the other day. They were order’d as a bush replacement but i was then emailed and told i would be supplied with this as powerflex changed the design and it was a bit cheaper and easier to fit. Happy days.
I’ve just had the Lotus mounts fitted today - all I can say is that they are excellent!! You notice the increased vibration at idle when stationary but the reduced engine movement and smoother gear changes are worth it!!
So do these ones that just slot in need any bolts removing, or is it simply lube up and push / rubber hammer home?
Dont suppose their is a guide?
No, you have to remove the mounting bracket etc from the car, but you don’t need to press new bushes in just lube the new inserts push home and replace on car job done.
I have the Lotus Motorsport mounts in the Elise… It’s also worth uprating the gearchange cables to the LMS ones aswell :thumbs
LMS gearchange cables
Could you point me in the right direction please
Also has anyone got any new Powerflex engine mount inserts floating around as I’m struggling to find anyone with them in stock after the fire
