Hey all just after some spare headlight bulb kit for the lotus… its 06 plate where could i get some from on short notice…?
If your’e after standard replacements I would guess any local motor factors ?
Halfrauds
do they do the kits or just the individual lights?
Both.
Are you going to Europe? If that’s the case, buy a “kit” with various bulbs eg headlights/side/indicators. IIRC Halfords sell various kits.
yea im going to germany via rotterdam… just thought i would actually get the bits i need just incase.
got triangle and first aid kit and hivis vest and head light reflectors even tho we are driving during the day have i forgotten anything i need?
Double check that your insurance includes Europe (surprising if it doesn’t!), & well worth taking out European Breakdown cover, just in case…
yeah got both of them through insurance, made sure i had them when i took it out,
someone told me about taking a little fire extinguisher? ott or worth getting one?
PS… What halfords kit number is it?
Just any bulb kit will do, you can’t replace them at the road side anyway
oh dear… tell me more ade… i didnt realise you cant change them by the road side
You can’t easily change the headlamp bulbs, as I believe it involves
Jack up car
Remove wheel (optional)
Remove\drop arch liner
Unbolt lense cover
Then change bulb and reverse process
Not easy, if in France just carry spare bulbs that is what you need to do not actually change them
I’ve never had any trouble getting to my headlights without all that faffing. Just turn the wheels to get a little more space. You’re only removing the front of the wheel arch liner. There are two plastic screws at the bottom, and a metal one near the top. A short screwdriver helps with the plastic ones.
It’s an easy job with the right tools, no jacking required. I wouldn’t fancy doing it at night by the side of the road though.
Does that work even on a lowered car? my liners look impossible to get at
I don’t know about a lowered car. I’d have thought the space would be similar because you’re working in front of the wheel, not above it. Just get the steering onto full lock. I can’t remember which way gives better access.
lock the wheels in the direction opposite to the side you want to change the bulbs on. it’s actually a fairly quick procedure, there are only about 4 plastic screws holding the wheel arch liner in and a couple of rubber grommets at the back of the headlight unit. no harm to have a look before you go and you’ll see it’s no big deal.
i spent ages fighting condensation in my headlight lenses and it got to the stage that i could be drying out a lens with a hairdryer via a funnel poking through a bulb recess in about 2 minutes.
the root cause and cure of that problem is a whole other story though
