I have tried an Exige S on the road and was impressed but I need it to be good on track too. So I hired an Exige S2 190 for a Silverstone track day - which turned wet, actually very wet.
As the dry line came back the car did get quicker but my over all impression was of being under whelmed
Of course a dry day would have been fairer but even when I could floor it down the straight there was no real sense of occasion.
Is the S actually much better? Could I bag a passenger ride, preferably at any circuit near Northampton i.e. Silverstone, Mallory, Donington, Bruntingthorpe, Bedford Autodrome, Rockingham.
Hi , I know it’s a little way away , but I will be at Rockingham on the 15th of October. If the weather is good , by all means come along , and I will get you out for a few passenger laps.
I have an Exige S that is standard , apart from a 2bular GT3 exhaust and a new diffuser from Mad Dog.
If it’s wet then , I am afraid you won’t learn too much , since whilst the strait line punch of an S is still impressive , it is the agility , & mechanical grip in the corners that really impresses.
Having raced Caterhams before , I think this is the best usable track car going , and took mine to the Nurburgring this summer on Circuit Days N700. I could have driven the Caterham, but I would have felt beaten up just getting there by comparison.
I really appreciate that, although I am supposed to be testing an MR2 race car (Don’t laugh) at Donington on that date but might be able to do the test at Rockingham, to double up. (and yes the MR2 will feel like a tortoise after the exige)
Do you have any unofficial lap times of tracks that you might have visited
No Track times , but for most track days the only things that realy give you trouble are 911 GT3s and the faster Caterhams (R400 and Above) most of everything else is fair game, unless it is an out & out power circuit.
The one track I do have an indication of time for is the Nurburgring , where gantry to gantry I did a 9.05. However this was my first visit to the circuit , with the car as standard so there would be plenty of time to come off if you put someone in it who realy knew the course.
