Just had a letter through the door advising of a Lotus safety recall to have the gear lever replaced. Mine was replaced last October, as mine was one that broke, but I’m wondering if there has been another upgrade to the lever since mine was replaced by the beefier item last year? Anyone Lotus Guru out there know?

Sounds as if your’s has been done by default.
It’s taken so long for Lotus to get the recall out due to all the usual red tape etc imposed by Uncle Tony & his chums.
AFAIK, & having read all the LCI posts on the issue, there is just the one upgrade.
Tim.
just booked mine in with B&C to have the stick swapped. I feel for the guys there… they had to spin the ‘its not a fault’ story for so long and now they have to do a U-turn
ah well, hopefully they can check out my wobbley charcoal filter on the stage 2 at the same time
Yep got mine, it has soured dealing with CN’s though, I just wish they could be honest about stuff like this…
Got my letter through today too. Has anyone had the brake pedal adjusted ‘under warranty’ to assist heel and toeing? Might ask about that at same time.

Wilson’s deny there is any brake fix available - I asked last week when booking in for the 9000mile service.

I think it was Pesky who posted a link to the US recalls site that listed some of the correspondence. From memory the new part was a larger diameter hexagonal bar made from a different material.
there is a brake fix available - B&C fixed mine under warranty. You might have to push Wilson’s. I remember those slags trying to keep my 1000 deposit on their DEMO CAR… will never deal with them again
What year ‘birth’ does the car have to have to not need a recall

from reading the recall notice, i think if it has the hex shifter then its fine…
Roughly, it’s pre May 05 cars that need the recall.
pish i guess i will have a nice letter waiting for me after the weekend

Bob, I bet your are peed off with CN…after all that, ‘if it’s not broke why fix it’ b**ll*cks they gave you. Give em hell mate …what woulds they feel like if you have had an accident because the gear lever snapped off?

And this is why I didnt deal with Wilsons. There IS a fix and I’ve had it done. HTH

Exactly, I asked them to change the gear lever shaft because I felt it had made a “snap” noise after a gearchange, and then had gone spongy ever since. Not because I had read anything on the internet and just wanted work doing for the sake of it. They messed me around and lied about it being a recall (I saw it was in the states) for something that could have killed me or my wife.
As I have said on Norlog, if Lotus are to tempt owners of Z4’s, Boxters etc. to the new Europa/Esprit, then they need the level of customer service to match, they already have the prices…
On another note, the brake fix, which they are doing for me (partly), I think is essentially moving the pedal down a bit, which will in turn put the pads closer to the disc? Is this correct, or are they doing it wrong???
The distance between pads and disk will always be the same.
I’ve not had the fix done yet as I’m waiting for Lotus to approve other warranty work b4 the car goes in but I understand the brake pedal height will remain higher relative to the throttle for easier heel and toe.

The one that broke on mine was the hex shifter, they replaced it with a thicker diameter circular in cross section one. I noticed that the gear knob is different with the new one as well, it is now held on with a recessed little grub screw.

I think you need a new dealer or to speak to someone who knows what they are talking about
I don’t know what it is they do but i’d imagine it involves shortening the spindle that operates the master-cylinder.
If they just jack the pedal down (imitating partial pressure on it, like your foot would do if it was there) then they aren’t doing it right i on’t think.
Not had anything through about a recall for my car and its a july 04 car, ill phone my dealer on monday
My dealer did do the peddle mod for me without question when i asked them to do it, no charge either
