Hi,
I’m completely new to this forum and like to share with you guys the Cup 240 we are running this weekend in a 12 hour endurance race in Malaysia…
Just a quick intro but we’ve run a 340R for the last 2 years pretty successfully and this year we’ve decided to upgrade!
So far, the car has been alright in testing but it’s a lot heavier and the we’re having problems getting the lap times down. Anyway, if anyone is interested, here’s the website of the race: http://www.malaysiangp.com.my/motorsports/mme/default.asp
Our fingers are crossed…
Dominic
P.S. If anyone has any ideas or tips on what we should look out for, please do give us some feedback as this baby is really new to us!
It’s interesting to see you’re using a Defi, did you have many problems wiring that in? Just out of interest are you taking the input’s from the back of the Stack or did you take it from the ECU? What have you got it showing?
also be interesting to see how it runs on the Standard brake setup if you still have that with the standard wheels.
Jamie your 240 wheels plus the cooling hoses would help these guys with unsprung weight and cooling respectively?
That roll cage isn’tthe standard Loti is it?
Good luck with the race
Yes the 240R wheels would be nice especailly if you can run slicks as they are wider than the standard wheel.
Brake wise you are at least uprating the pads?

David - any chance of a translation for us technically challenged oldies
Thanks for the nice comments! Great to meet so many enthusiasts
Just to answer a couple of the posts - the 240R rims would have been great but were a little difficult to source in Singapore as time was a little critical. We did however manage to get some lightweight rims though I am not sure from which Lotus model.
As for the brakes, they have been upgraded to the factory AP Racing option.
David, I’m surprised you noticed the Defi gauges! They are for oil temp and oil pressure and the control unit just below the cut-out switch displays the voltage. We were fortunate and we are getting the readings directly from the oil filter! There is an adapter available which slots directly into the bottom of the oil filter housing. I will take some pictures of this when I get a chance and post it here.
The other mods that we have done were to remove the cat but still running the 2 sensors and a straight through exhaust with a tiny box to give some back pressure. The system was fabricated locally as we did not have time to look around.
The air filter has also been changed to a cone type.
Lights: we’ve converted the main beams into xenons from a Lexus and as you can see we’ve removed the standard driving lights replacing them with Hella xenons.
The air-con has been removed as this car was supplied with one.
As for cooling other bits of the car, we have a duct for the alternator and so far there has been no need for ducting to the brakes.
Brakes are using Castrol SRF fluid and the engine we are running on Castrol TWS 10W/60 which has been our choice for the last 2 years. Last weekend during the shakedown, we were seeing water temp at 89-92C and oil temp at not more than 105C.
We’re running on Dunlop slicks again as we’ve found them to suit the Lotus very well.
Thanks for the support, will keep you guys updated on our progress!
I’ll look forward to seeing the wiring pic’s. I’m amazed you can get sort of info from an oil filter! What else is racing in your category?
Hi Steve,
The Defi is an aftermarket display system made by Nippon Seiki. It’s a great peice of kit that’s very accurate and can support a head up display! You can select loads of different gauges depending on what you want to keep your eye to.

I’ll answer your question about the Defi gauges before I go into how we did over the race weekend.
Attached is a photo of the adapter that we used for getting the oil pressure and oil temp readings. It’s made by Greddy and I think quite easily available. It slots between the block and the oil filter.
Hope that this is useful - let me know if you need more info.
