Exige camshaft cover breather pipes

Evening all,

I’ve been searching for hours now in an attempt to find a part number for the breather pipes that connect to the K-Series camshaft cover? The ones i’m on about are the ones that are joined together before going into one pipe? See here in the top left…are these actually a standard part? Where can I get one from? (I hope you dont mind Esprit for stealing your photo!!)

Thanks
Ben.

Dont bother with them!!! They just dump oil mist/fumes back into the Throttle Bodies and the IACV.

Run 2 seperate pipes over the airbox to the LH rear of the boot area into a MOCUL oil catch tank. Looks better and stops all the crud gumming up your induction. :sunglasses:

Hi Pete,

At the moment, I already have two pipes Y-Pieced together to feed my catch tank but the setup looks messy. I wanted that breather pipe above, to tidy the install up. (My K series isnt actually in a Lotus  ) I thought that if i could buy that particular pipe, it would make life so much easier!

I don’t suppose you have a part number do you?

Thanks

Ben.

It was origonally only supplied as part of the 340R engine catch tank kit. You may be lucky and find that its still available from the factory. Haven’t got the part number I’m afraid.

Not sure if these are exactly what you’re on about Ben:-

Breather Hose Kit - Lotus Part no. : A340X6013S
Breather Tank - Lotus Part no. : A340E6011S

Don’t mind you using the photo at all!

And yes, the pipe in question is a 340R part number. No real reason you couldn’t make it just as tidy by using a T-piece and standard hoses. I think the hose from Lotus will be very expensive

I’ve found out its 50!! Jesus that is dear.

Ah well, i’ll tidy my own pipe work up (so to speak!)

Thanks for the info folks

Ben.

Made my own using a T piece and a home made elbow…one small prob is the tubes are different diamaters but a bit of heat gun does the trick.

BTW do these pipes take all the venting including the crankcase? often wondered why there are 2 of them as they both seem to go into the cam cover…

Always amazed how much crud is collected in the catch tank.

MrBean… they take most of it. I was able to prime my oil pump by blocking them off and feeding some air down the dipstick hole

As for crud catching in the catch tank, it gets worse the more worn your engine is (blowby as the rings wear)… on your new engine, with the rings properly bedded, it should be less than before

"with the rings properly bedded, it should be [color:#FF0000]less[/color] than before "

That seems to be the best way of describing it but define “less”

Is yours running yet George.

BTw my engine has got to come out again as the rear crankshaft oil seal has failed after 1k miles due to faulty batch of seals
UGH
See you in Jan

Engine start in the next week or so Clive. Looking forward to seeing you.

Clive, PM’d… my oil seal seems to have suffered the same fate… MEGA pissed off… big time, steam coming outta my ears.

Nnnnnoooooooooo!!! how bad is the leak?

OMG.

That is just the bloody pits mate. Cannot believe it! :frowning:

You guys should deffo have some comeback on the faulty seal manafacturer…

Nightmare mate, but sadly its something that happens soooooo often. There seems to be all kinds of different tolerances with these seals. I used to put self tappers in around the seal to physically hold it in place and I know a lot of the race boys do the same.

Yep, Sean’s right. I (very carefully) drilled and tapped 2 holes at 12 and 6 o’clock positions into the block/flange around the seal. If you do this try not to drill any deeper than 8mm as you’ll end up ‘venting the block’

Really sorry to hear you’ve got this problem George.

Well the leak’s not bad at all, but it’s bad enough to need to be fixed (I ain’t having an oil leak at all on a brand new engine!)

It’s just bloody annoying… the only thing leaving a sour taste in my mouth right now.

Get some gravy down you, it’ll soon make you feel better

Seriously though George, I’m sure you’ll have it all “tickety boo” very shortly. All the best for Chrimbo etc

Exactly how I feel …as George’s was assembled in NZ from OEM parts.I guess there is a batch of faulty seals in the system (chinese copies?) Lets hope DVAs “tightened” version will do the trick.
Replacement seal will certainly be Glued and Screwd.
Any more oil leaks and I will regret not going rice burner.(Dont believe I said that)
