Hello All,
A private view but I m sure one that wouldnt gain much descent within the forum is the S1 Exige and 340R are true icons of the future, in fact I often wonder they arent achieving classic status far in advance of their current years.
Obviously the limited production and the sheer desirability even when stationary through design only assists - the pinnacle of an icon, the Elise a car that in itself reinvented the sportscar and Lotus.
I was very lucky to previously own a 73 Porsche 911 RS, often underlined as the purist driver car of the breed a sentiment I d support. During that period I wrote frequently for 911 press, and became somewhat of a geek for information including sourcing a copy of;
Carrera RS by Dr Thomas Gruber & Dr Georg Konradsheim the bible for owners and a limited edition of 3000. The book was a complete history of that model in isolation to all other 911’s, its design its race heritage and a list of each and every one of the 1590 produced, their colour and specification. If you have ever seen the classic car restoration guide series “Original XXX a restorers guide” the photograhy and content in terms of detail is similar, just with a broader background and greater depth.
I have over the previous years toyed with seeking to produce a similar (to the best of my ability) history of the Exige, whilst records in theory are “fresh”. I originally posted some years ago unsuccessfully to build an S1 Exige Register, with the greatest concensous being owners and in turn their cars might be vunerable to theft sharing such detail - which is understandable.
However I feel the Exige and 340R are poorly represented in terms of dedicated detail, normally being the last chapter in a book about the Elise.
I am aware that I dont have all the information or as yet the contacts and many on this forum have far greater knowledge of the cars than I. I would as I have found myself with the time and enthusiasm to revist this idea like to ask for those who would be interested in supporting such a book, purely in terms of sharing history, info, pertinent pictures and details, if they might get in touch.
I have previously approached Hethel and will seek to do so again but again if contacts or introductions are possible any advice and support would be gratefully recieved.
Car detail would be non related to current owners, purely based on the cars as they left the factory and I hope be a solid read and one that will only highlight how lucky you owners are.
I appreciate any support in advance and hope people are encouraged this would be a desirable read.
