New to the group and my first exige!living in the surroundings of the welsh twisting A roads it seems rude not to own an Exige! been after one for a few years and for one reason or another ended up buying something else! Well I wish Iād donāt this sooner as Iām as impressed as I hoped I would be!:) itās a 2011 Exige 240S with 21,000 miles and is in fantastic condition, couldnāt really be happier with it,I have a few mods Iām planning so Iāll keep updates coming on here! looks a great forumā:+1:t2:
Welcome along!
Ill follow your progress with interest. Thanks for taking the time to register and intro yourself!
This is probably a mega stupid question but how do you upload photos on here?
Oooo yeah I saw that for sale when it was up, thought it was very nice then - and still do now!
Congratulations.
Looks well that!
Very nice, looks a good one! Enjoy
I really like that version. Red suits it so well. Welcome to Exiges.Com.
Thanks guysā¦I stretched my budget a bit to get it but think I made the right choice! Itās been very well looked after, one thing Iād like to ask isā¦the guy I bought it off was very into his cars but I do t think too knowledgable on mainetenance etcā¦he mentioned it was due an oil change which Iām more than competent to do however when I checked the service records and receipts itd actually had oil and filter less than a 1,000 miles back from the previous owner to him(in a lotus dealership) surely it doesnāt need another now?is there a service recommendation page somewhere for these cars
Itās ājustā a Toyota 2zz engine so pretty normal service intervals. Was the 1000 miles a year ago, or was it a decade ago? The latter not unheard of on a weekend car like an Exige!
Base it on time and mileage, whichever comes first.
This is whats
confused him I think and is a bit stupid of the specialist centre?itās been stamped in the service book as air filter but itās had a lot more done!?
Yes a standard service will always be oil and filter, the air filter is not done every service and so was listed as a āspecial operationā. As it was Summer 2019, then yes technically you are overdue an oil change.
According to my service manual, Lotus recommend every 9000 miles OR 12 months, whichever comes first.
Looks very nice.
You say āstretched your budgetā , but almost any other car you could have bought will have lost more money in the short period that you have owned it than the Exige cost you extra.
Man mathsā¦yeah
I used to change the oil and filter after every second track day!
Congratulations, the car looks great!
With regards to servicing, the supercharger belt will also need to be inspected/replaced. I canāt remember the service intervals on this but Iām sure someone else will advise
Thanks guys your replies are much apreciatedā¦do many of you do oil changes yourselves?im happy to do it myself and nearest specialist to me is about 100 miles away but do people get really fussy with service history etc if or when I came to sell it
In my experience DIY changes are not frowned upon, just keep records - receipt showing your oil/filter purchase etc. I do however go to a specialist at least once every couple of years, itās an excuse to have a brew and talk cars with someone for a bit and have my handywork overlooked by somebody who actually knows what theyāre doing.
It depends, I always pay for a stamp from a specialist once a year just to get them to look over anything another set of eyes is useful, but service much more than that myself (as most do on these cars). If you are selling to a previous lotus owner, self service is not an issue.
Keep the invoices for everything though, buyers love a folder of paperwork
Welcome Christian !!
Just to give you an opposite view, oil does not go off quickly, certainly not in a year. Itās the winding up on the long chain polymers that eventually kills an oil and thatās caused primarily by total engine revolutions and cold starts. I expect your daily can do more than 20k miles on a change of oil and probably times out after 3 years or more. As you say, a 2zz is not a very highly stressed engine and is a modern design so will not fill the oil with soot or fuel. Even track days are not that harsh, you do more total engine revolutions per mile so the oil will wear out quicker. As a point of interest, passenger jet engines (remember them) just get topped up and they run massive distances, hours and very high temperatures, the turbines run above the melting point of the metals, thatās hot.
I have never had an issue of changing oil myself, as said by others, just keep receipts to prove it has been done.
I would say itās really a waste of time/money/effort in your case. However, for some it will be important and do it if it feels better.
