What are the relative advantages/disadvantages of using exhaust wrap rather than heat shielding at the back of the car? My heat shielding is on its last legs, rotted away at most of the fixing points and is rattling around - figured if exhaust wrap is as effective and lighter, I may as well use that as its easy to fit, and won’t buzz and rattle around etc like the heat shielding does. (I realise it won’t do that when its properly secured).
I have the back open with the 2bular eliminator kit and decat. I have a small amount around the U bend but I doubt I need it. No heat shieding at all, the cool air does a great job.
The intent was to leave heat shielding round the toe link joints and probably remove the rest all together, then wrapping the system from the cat onwards (maybe even the manifold depending on access).
Not yet, but I will probably be going down the route of panel eliminator kit, basically because it will be a) lighter and b) easier to fit a tow strap and make access to the tow strap easier.
Oh yes, eventually I was intending on going down the full 2bular system route, but since the guys at 2bular never bothered to get back to me I will prob find an alternative - don’t like poor customer service!
Jon, bare with 2bular, he is a one man company and is so busy things slip by him, if you want direct contact let me know and I’ll speak to Jim for you.
I have always used Cool It exhaust wrap from the supplier - Nimbus motor sport. It makes a major difference to the under bonnet temps and I am sure the Exige (S1) is not so hot in the cabin over summer. Also we got some BHP improvement on a pre cross flow (1-2%) by wrapping the exhaust, this is the only engine I have had on a dyno.
The main reasons I did it on the exige was to protect the A/C pump, Alternator and mainly to try and keep the cabin temps down.
