That’ll keep ya bacon butties nice & warm

Very nice pipeage

looks goos what gain did you get over the standard 4-1?

That is just superb. I love the discolouration on those pipes.

Saw that set-up on Randy’s race car, looks great, especially for a race car, but no good for a road car if you want a legal MOT.

Why would it fail an MOT Mark ?

No cat ??

Not only no cat but nowhere to fit one either.

Mark,

What do you think of the proposition in the MSA magazine that all road based race cars from 1992/93 onwards will have to run a cat?

Steven H

Steven,

Sounds like a recipe for disaster IMHO (this is not a LoT position).

The amount of heat generated in a cat is something that most people worry about, just look at the issues on the early 340R’s and Exiges where cars have caught fire, it could be difficult for some to actually fit one in somewhere like the system shown above so will lead to some very expensive changes to a lot of race cars, which I don’t think is great for trying to keep the costs down in national motorsport.

Obviously if the MSA push this through then all cars will need to run this way. I can understand the position of trying to look environmentally better but how are they going to police it? It could be perfectly feasible for someone to knock the internals out of a cat so it looks like it is there, it’s not as if they can measure the emissions as even wit a cat most cars would be well over the standards required at an MOT, so where would they set it, and for example a std Honda’d car would have less emissions than a modified K-series pushing out similar power so how do you differentiate.

Glad you have a similar opinion Mark!
Is this something we can get on to the MSA about and hopefully stop it, or will it go ahead regardless?
-Never really had any dealings with the MSA apart from renewing my license.

I don’t see it being stopped to be honest.

With such a huge push on environmental issues there is a lot of pressure on the motorsport community to be seen to do something.

Further to this thread:-

The catalytic converter rule has now been ratified by the MSA and WILL be mandatory from 2009.
