HelloOnce again the thema exhaust. I’m searching for a soundfile or a small movie where I can see or hear an Exige which has installed a “eliseparts”-exhaust. At searching in the internet I have found another exhaust maybe anybody could be interested => ¥í¡¼¥¿¥¹Æ°²è¡¦¼Ì¿¿¡¦¥ê¥ó¥¯½¸ klaus
Dont have a movie or sound file but it has a rich deep sound oh and its loud !!
hello before the Exige I have had a Elise with Christopher Neil Exhaust, which wasn’t really silent. Can I compare this exhausts or are they more different?klaus
Hi Klaus,I believe Gearys is louder than the Chris Neil, have you tried http://www.british-cars.co.uk ? There are hundreds of threads in the archives re sports exhausts.I have Gearys exhaust with the Oval end, it was incredibly loud with the engine at 202BHP so i carried out a mod in the oval section and a back to back test with the Janspeed (on my wifes car) it was quieter [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif[/image]
helloI have already searched in the other board but I didn’t found any soundfiles for comparing.
You cant really tell by sound files, they will be recorded at different sample rates, different rev ranges etc, you HAVE to listen to them yourself or take notice of the sound levels that have been recorded at track day events. An exhaust with 107Db sound level at 6000 rpm will be certainly be loud but at that level they will not let you on most tracks. I know that’s difficult to say something about an exhaust only with a soundfile but it’s easier as without anything. And at Austria are not really many exiges to find out anything. So a list of different exhausts with soundfiles and other data would be nice to have. So something to the elise with christopher neil exhaust and no cat, the car has had at stand:84dB, at 4500Umin/90dB and max/105dB.
The Chris Neils exhaust IMHO sounds horrible! I have heard Geary’s exhaust on a Elise S160 and that sounds fantastic but it is very loud…I could hear the car which was several cars infront of me and over my Exige Supersports exhaust (on my S160). If you go for Geary’s I recommend that you also buy the silenced CAT pipeHTHRob
Is it only me then?I couldn’t care less of the type of sound the exhaust makes! And I’m soon going to buy an aftermarket exhaust for my Exige. What do I look for in an exhaust then?-it should be lightweight to help the handling (a bit less weight in the back)-it should make more power, preferably a 4-2-1 design to help the midrange and with a good design so that the top-end is better too.-should not be much louder than the original.Apart from that it can sound whichever way it needs to. I bet that many wouldn’t mind the sound if such an equipped-car continuously overtook the other louder ones at the track.Or am I in the wrong planet?
"Or am I in the wrong planet?"Earth calling Uldis… [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/grin.gif[/image]I think a nice note from ones exhaust enhances the rich tapestry of experience that is owning an Exige. [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/shocked.gif[/image]But yep - Should also be lighter and give a few more horses. I think the Janspeed Supersports does both of these. Others could be better though. Cheers, Tim
UldisWelcome to my planet … 100% agreed [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif[/image]Hows the exhaust manufacture going by the way ?
That’s right that an exhaust must not only have a good sound but it’s nice to have. What I’m looking for is a stainless steel one, which is lighter then the original (-6 kg) and has also more performance. So the geary exhaust was interesting for me but it looks to be too loud for street use. The christopher neil has also some good features but doesn’t really have a good sound. Another possibility is the janspeed. So I will search again, to find the best compromise exhaust.klaus
Hi Miniman, the last time I checked they were working on it and should have advanced a lot by now, but haven’t checked today (tried to call but too late). These are in fact the guidelines they have, lightness and power.I bet you that even if the car sounded like a scared chicken (a big one) but made the car much more powerful and lapped anything else in the track, [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/shocked.gif[/image] it would become the latest fad. [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/grin.gif[/image]Not that this would be necessarily the case with this new exhaust, but if it was, I would be happy to drive the fastest chicken in the UK ! [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/grin.gif[/image]Beck, FYI, the one Powerspeed is making for us follows the light-power guidelines, with the added benefit of being stainless, re-packable and with a sports cat (a light one) on request.Uldis
UldisIf the exhaust and sport cat work out good they may have a second customer [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif[/image]Of course I want to hear it first [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/wink.gif[/image]
Does the Chris Neil actually fit the Exige? i’m asking because the tail pipes on an Elise exhaust are a lot shorter so that doesn’t leave many choices available that i know of that are made to fit, errm actually its only the Janspeed or Eliseparts. There must be others, anyone?
Uldis, the Janspeed apparently has a lifetime guarantee. If Powerspeed can offer that too and a reasonable price they might have their third customer, as the 190 upgrade has turned my box into a bag of bolts! That said, I don’t actually have the car at the moment. It’s getting B&C’s special ‘right let’s sort out all these warranty issues you’ve been going on about for a year’ treatment. Hopefully that includes the oil gunking (technical term), although I bought a run-around (Puma, fun but rolls too much) on Saturday for the v.short trips.Ian [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif[/image]
I called Dave today and he mentions that he’s just bought a new machine that will make the bends just much better, seamless. He mentioned the amount of work that was put into it to make it the lightest system without sacrificing strength.I passed him the link of this thread, so we may see some updates soon.Cheers,Uldis
[image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/confused.gif[/image] Im totally confused now [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/confused.gif[/image]I have just had the 190 done and the standard exhaust seems to now be a bag of nails, What can I use that doesn’t compromise power but is not noisy enough to stop me getting on certain tracks I dont care what it sounds like as long as it’s quiet enough not to cause me troubleJohnC
