Exhaust Help

Hi guys, some help please.
Have got a standard car at the moment and want to get cracking with some mods. I have done a search and it hasnt really come up with the answers. Basically I miss the pop/bang overun etc but dont like the exhaust to be too loud, (its my only car). I have three main options that i think are suitable so some advice would be greatly appreciated. First option is a Stage 1 at cost from dealer, part of the deal when i bought the car. Second is a stage 2 for 100 including fitting, it aint brand new but i reckon thats a bloody good price. Thirdly wait for another Larni group buy to come along and get one then. Your thoughts please? Cheers Ed

Not sure how quickly a group by will come up again but I’m either going to go for the Larini, Miltek, or possibly a Janspeed.

Get the stage 2 - once it has damaged your hearing enough, you won’t think it is too loud!

Best thing is to listen to as many different cars as you can to get a feel for what they sound like. Maybe get in touch with Scottish Elises bunch or go along to Knock Hill for a TD. The trouble with asking on a BBS is few people ever fit more than one “performance” exhaust and many will claim theirs is the best thing since sliced bread but won’t have a clue what the others are like. Also the hive mind will just parrot the latest fashion.

I’ve a stage 2 and am happy with it but when I bought the car the choice was limited to just the Lotus ones. Now it’s coked up a bit it’s less harsh and has a deeper note. It gives some great pops and bangs if you’re holding just below the second cam for an overtake but have to back off.

Spot on Sharm, “the Larini trend”

I have tried a few now and prefer the 2bular one so far.
Excellent sound note as well as being the lightest available

Stage 1 is best.

For every day use the Stage1 is a pretty good bet, especially with an induction kit… Stage2 sounds amazing but what pass some of the track noise tests

Stage 1 with an ITG kit would be good.

I have a Stage 2 exhaust which sounds great but there are very few trackdays I could do if I wanted to do trackdays. The Stage 2 is loud and at about 80mph’ish it tends to sit at a point that drives you mad. Having since fitted the ITG kit, it has flatterned that out.

Cheers for the help so far guys. Think its best to have a listen to whats available and then base my decision on that. I have heard a Stage 2 with pipercross and it sounded mental. From whats been said it sounds like theres a huge amount of difference in exhaust/induction combinations.
Decisions…?!

I have heard the Stage 1, Stage 2 (with and without Pipercross induction), and Quicksilver - but I reckon the best of the bunch by far is this one:

Fitted one to my Exige yesterday (nice alternative to Xmas shopping which I should have been doing) and it sounds brilliant. Really rorty when your foot is down, but none of the annoying boomy drone that the stage 2 has when your are cruising. Highly recommended.

It is the Larini

cheers.
I take there is also a piperX on the car in the vid…

Not sure, but I don’t think so. The vid was sent to me by Neil at Larini while I was waiting for mine. I haven’t heard mine on full chat from the outside yet, but in the cabin it sounds better than any Elise/Exige I have ever driven or paxed in - certainly a much nicer sound than my old Elise S2 135, and much better than S2 Exiges with stage 1 or 2 exhausts (both of which I have had extended test drives in). Sound is a very subjective thing of course and very much a matter of personal taste, but for me the stage 1 is too tame, and the stage 2 sounds good at high revs, but is too resonant and boomy in the midrange, as well as too loud for many trackdays. Not heard the latest Janspeed offering for the S2 Exige, but I never much liked their exhaust for the K series S2 Elise (too boomy again)

Glad to hear you managed to fit it ok did you do it under the 2hr mark?
So worth the 6 month wait then?

It was about 2 hours again, but about half of that was getting the old exhaust off which was a real pain . Should have taken you up on your offer of help as it would have been a lot easier with 2 people - still, grovelling around on the garage floor for 2 hours was preferable to an Xmas shopping trip with my other half . 6 months is a bloody long time but initial impressions are that it was worth the wait .

Decided to go for the cheaper stage 2 option, although will take it off and resell if its too much. Either that or some ear plugs Getting it fitted tomorrow, cant wait. With regards induction, is the ITG panel filter worth it or should i save for the whole shabang!? Cheers Ed
