Exhaust Heatshield Vibes/Buzzing

Hi guys, I’ve recently installed a Stage 3 backbox and the heatshield has started vibrating/buzzing (as you look at the car from the back, on the left hand side, covering the u-bend of the cat before it joins the backbox).

It’s worse when the car is cold and it gradually disappears as it heats up, but its feckin annoying.

I’ve had the undertray off twice now to re-adjust the backbox and even replaced the crappy mild steel heat shield fixings with stainless, but its made no difference. I’ve either bent the heatshield somewhere whilst fitting the new backbox or it’s moved and is now vibrating against something else.

Has anyone else had the same problem and knows of a work around?

Thanks
Dan

as you will see from link it’s in 2 parts, If it where me I would remove and re fit, might mean drilling out rivets that hold the two bit together

They started to rattle on mine, the mounting points had deteriorated through, removed them which didn’t take much effort and replaced with some exhaust heat wrap cloth tape.

Just found the same shield on my car has corroded where the two parts join and also around the mounts so that nothing holds it on. Have just seen the price of new ones!! And one of the mounting bolts has sheared.

Therefore considering heat wrap - any issues with yours Dean?

Removed mine altogether as I fitted GT3 dumped the grills and rear panel too.
Might have old heat shield in garage. I’ll have a look tonight

Good excuse for an upgrade, or just leave it off, all the aftermarket ones don’t bother with heat shields

Thanks for replies. Mine currently has a Quicksilver unit on, but I think this is just an add on to the standard cat and U-bend.

Currently have the top half wired on which I guess should reflect most of the heat from sensitive areas!

Any chance you could post a pic of your modifications Scoob? Sounds a good idea.

If it is the one on the u bend, just take it off, I have not run with one since the car was almost new as the sport cat from 2bular didn’t have one

pic might be crap, sorry taken with my phone

john send me your email and I’ll send you pics, can’t get teh hang of it on here

I’d be interested in the pic if you can make it work, as my heat shield is also corroded and buzzing

No buzzing, no heat shield needed

Hi John,

No problems with the exhaust heat wrap cloth tape,it’s been on for about a year now, the black colour has faded a little.
I just trimmed it a little near the old heat shield hanger brackets and O2 sensor, try to get it really tight.

I got 50mm wide by 10 meters black with some stainless steel cable ties, I used about 2 meters of it, from the cat, round U-bend to exhaust.

cheers
Dean

Thanks Dan. I will give it a go.
