I removed quite a bit of the Nimbus heatshield when I had the 2ubular exhaust fitted. This included the ‘U’ bend piece that fits over the ‘U’ bend after the Cat.
Now that I have re-fitted the rear panels and probably reduced the cooling airflow available with the panel not fitted, I noticed the other day that the rear left fiberglass gets pretty hot with the radiated heat off the exhaust! A bit concerned about this… will the fiberglass soften/melt/catch fire!
Just wondering if I should try to re-fit the Nimbus over the ‘U’ bend… or am I worried about nothing!
I’m planning to put mine back on before the next track day. It gives off a hell of a lot of heat. So much so that the TPMS consistently shows the rear nearside tyre as hotter and higher pressure than the offside once you get the car moving. If it’s giving off enough heat to do that there’s probably a good chance it could melt something vital.
If it wasn’t needed would it be there in the first place?
There’s a thread over on LotusTalk, where a lot of them have removed the heat shielding completely without any issues, afew of them do regular track days.
I’m getting my 2bular decat+exhaust completely ceramic coated including the tailpipes in black from blackperformance, this should help quite a bit with heat retention. I’m also getting Jim’s 4-2-1 manifold, which will be getting coated as well.
This should all help, as I’ve removed the heat shield around the grill area, andas the original cat is off the car, the u-bend heat shield is missing also.
Although I kept it on above the boot floor and rear of car against firewall and over the toe links.
None at all here Pete, same as Tal…but as you know I have the GT3 so no refit of existing panels, the air does the cooling for me. I have some wrap around it but it doesn’t really do anything.
