Exhaust drone

Picked up my Exige S last Monday (06 Graphite Grey) Wow, it’s going to be so much fun!

Myself and the wife went to a wedding last weekend about an hour and a half’s drive away and we both found the exhaust a little tiring. It’s a stage 2 Exige S exhaust (I believe it’s also called the stage 3?). Don’t get me wrong I love the low down burble and especially the pops and bangs on the overrun, its just the drone when crusing that started to get to us.

We’re hoping to do a few trips away in the car so would like to get an exhaust that doesn’t drone at motorway speed yet still reminds me what I’m driving when I put my foot down, oh and it needs to pop and bang. Can anyone recommend anything?

Been looking through previous threads and 2bular seems highly recommended. Their site talks about the Exige S exhaust that’s new for summer 2008. Any one got one and if so what size did you go for?

2bular

Thanks in advance.

Stage 2’s do drone - if they don’t drone, then they fall off - it’s a known Lotus trait , they all do to some extent.

I had a 2ubular but ditched that in favour for a Larini.

My money would be on a Larini

Either an Arqray Twin Muffler or for half the price a Larini Sports Exhaust System - Sport Style

Having seen both and owned the Arqray Twin Muffler, it’s chalk and cheese vs. Larini. The quality of the product, welding and material of the Arqray is without a doubt the superior one of the two. While either will not drone or have raspy exhaust sounds. They only “open up” when you put the car through WOT.

What was wrong with the 2ubular - I was considering one?

Any problems with the “noise police” for track use eg at Donington/Brands/Oulton, or any other circuits’ trackdays you’ve attended?

There are definately different camps for each exhaust, biggest issue is noise if you want to go on track, most of the ones above are marginal at best on the supercharged car, if you add a sports cat most will fail. If you go with a big exhaust 8x24 gt3 from 2bular you will have no noise issues but you will probably loose the pops and bangs as well. You really need to go out in some cars to make your choice, then it is down to how much you want to spend?
I like 2bular exhausts and Jim can build exactly what you want which is a nice touch.
Fatcat bought one of my second hand ones which fitted my car but was just a bit loud at Bedford ;( for whatever reason it just fell off his car on track several times (it never fell off mine) in a day so he changed.

I could not stand my Stage 2, combined with the Pipercross induction. The drone made my ears bleed on long runs.
Changed to a 2bular, so much better. I threw away my earplugs.

Pesky - The Arqray is still more quiet than the Larini. No issues on the track for “excessive noise”, if these won’t pass, nothing else will pass.

Ade - I appreciate 2bular and Jim being local, for that matter, he will get the bulk of the business, which he already is. Park this aside, I’ll like to know where you’re getting your opinions from when you say “the ones above are marginal at best on a supercharged car?”

Do you own either the Arqray or Larini to make a comment like that? When the manufacturer, seller and owners comments all substantiate that it does NOT drone or produce raspy exhaust noise?

For that matter, it’s as quiet as a stock Exige S exhaust and like I’ve said, it only opens up when you put it into WOT powerband. When both are at WOT and comparing it with a Stage 2 or some of the large 2bular SC pipes, Arqray and Larini sound like quiet mouses while the other blare out loud. Loud, not tasteful, far cry from a well balanced or tuned high revving engine.

Cheers Noel - but at which tracks exactly has your car been tested/monitored for noise, please?

It is an opinion gained from a great deal of reading and seeing people getting sent home from trackdays due to noise, the reason I say marginal is the weather can make a huge difference on drive by, you can pass one day fail the next add a sport cat to most and you will fail on drive by at places like bedford and goodwood
Don’t forget the SC car is a lot noiser than the NA to on the same exhaust.

This is all my own opinion and should be treated that way I might even suggest it is total rubbish.
