exhaust causing resonance

Ever since I’ve had the 2bular Euro exit exhaust fitted, it’s caused horrible vibrations through what I think is resonances against the heatshield.

I’ve tightened the undertray bolts, the reg plate bolts etc.

I cut away the heatshield behind the reg plate yesterday, but I think the heatshield above the exhaust cans is now picking up resonances and the vibration noise from that in the cabin is awful.

I was wondering, as the heatshield isn’t stuck down is it possible to rivet it to the underside of the boot to stop it from vibrating?

Jim once advised me to remove the heatshielding completely but I didn’t, as I think it lines and protects the underneath of the boot from excessive heat(or am i wrong).

A tube of intumescent (fireproof) sealant could do the trick…

Pardon my ignorance…I assume you’re suggesting I use the sealant to stick down the heatshield to the underneath of the boot?

Yup I was !

Or rather “blobs” of it to isolate it from the boot and break up resonance … I would suspect that allowing airflow between the boot and heatshield is beneficial .

Cheers, will give it a go
