Euro Hoon May 2009

As i mentioned in my intro thread for the newbies i organise Euro Hoons for some of the S2000 crowd & am off again for a trip in May. I’m staying closish to home for this one with keeping it in France (I am organising another Hoon in August down to Rome via the Mille Miglia route) & thought some of you may be interested in what we do.

For reasons too long to go into the trips are known as Jacky Slag Hoons & with me being a previous S2000 owner the trips were originally solely S2k meets. Now, with owners like myself moving on we keep doing it as its the best fun to be had with great friends & some fantastic roads to blast along.

Our current itinerary is as follows;

Departure date is Fri 22nd May with arrival back in UK 30th May.

Route.

Route is now almost finalised.

Fri 22nd May Ferry & then to overnight stop in Lille at a BB Hotel.

Day 1 Sat 23rd May. Lille to Dijon - 310 miles. Hotel to be confirmed.

On the motorway for this run as usual.

Day 2 Sun 24th May. Dijon to Briancon - 340 miles. Hotel enquiry sent.

Motorway from Dijon heading towards Geneva before which we’ll head for Annecy on the edge of the Alps where we will head for Fumet via the N roads to join the legendary Route des Grand Alpes which will eventually take us all the way down to the Med coast. The route for Day 2 takes us over several high passes before we hit Val D’Isere & we’ll stay on the D902 for Briancon.

Day 3 Mon 25th May. Briancon to Monaco - 160 miles. Hotel enquiry sent.

N & D class roads all the way for this through some stunning scenery in the Mercantour National Park. Should be a cracker of a day esp if the sun is out. Our hotel is just up the coast from Monaco at Roquebrune-Cap-Martin & overlooks the principality & looks like being one of those little gems we stumble upon on the Slag Hoons.

Day 4 Tues 26th May. Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, Monaco to Marseille - 180 miles. Hotel to be confirmed.

On the coast road for this avoiding the motorways unless traffic is bad (as past experience of the Riviera has shown, it can be).

Day 5 Weds 27th May. Marseille to ?? - undecided as yet but will be via Mont Ventoux.

Day 6 Thurs 28th May. Undecided to Orleans area. To be confirmed.

Day 7 Fri 29th May. Orleans area to Rouen.

Day 8 Sat 30th May. Roeun to the ferry - 160 miles. Taking it relatively easy following the Channel coast & have lunch in Boulogne area. Avoiding motorways again.

The usual set up for this. Long drive, hotel, eat, sleep, leave.

The main info thread on the S2k forum is below.

If anyone fancies it i have 2 places available. I don’t take any money off anyone. Ferries & any chain hotels (BB Hotel for 1st night) must be paid for individually so you sort that yourselves once i’ve passed along the relevant links. I sort all the routes & book the hotels myself securing them with my CC. The bill is then paid by the guest as normal when you leave.

Days can be long with 8+ hours driving not unusal although i have sorted some shorter driving days on this run. The original idea of these Hoons was as endurance type runs & we still keep to that. We don’t drive like loons but do drive in a spirited fashion where conditions allow.
Hotels are of a good to high standard. I have a lot of contacts i’ve built up over the years of doing these & finding excellent hotels has become part of the fun. Means a good day driving & good food & good hospitality when we reach each days destination. Budget is approx 80 per night & that buys you a lot in France. Hotel service does not compare with UK. Far batter for far batter value.
