Considering an engine rebuild (or buying a new car) due to car burning too much oil, I recently used 8ltrs in 2.5k, 3ltrs of which were on the front of Thommo’s car
I’m wanting to keep the K-series or buy another VHPD but if I decide to rebuild mine, what are the best engine mods whilst it’s out ?
Currently the car has better verniers, lightened flywheel,190ps and UCR gearbox
I’m just getting mine rebuild at Track Group at the moment with the intention of refreshing the engine but nothing more. Plan to run it on the OE ECU so no great shakes but a fair old job nevertheless, it’ll just be more reliable for longer. Oh and OCD clean as FOOK!
Hopefully be updating the build thread in a few weeks with some images and info.
I can testify that Graham’s puffs out a bit of smoke - but goes like hell. Now mine has done 50K miles and used just 1litre during the 2,498mile Nyloc Euro tour, there may come a time when I need a rebuild so interested to know what and who the options are these days.
I’m also sticking with the OE ECU, although everyone is telling me that you can adjust the Emerald to give the same characteristics
I need to check on you build thread
Anyone fitted Piper Cams ? Made any noticeable difference ?
Anyone also had the cylinder heads gas flowed ?
As I posted elsewhere, my car runs better with the OEM ecu than the emerald. The OEM copes with things like the fans, lights, heater being switched on and has compensation for pressure etc. I never got all those dialled in on the emerald. When my car was running where it was mapped on the emerald it certainly felt more powerful but extreme cold, hot and the like and it was off.
That’s all it is Rob, been like it for a few years but it’s getting worse, so now’s the time to sort it, would also like to add some mods at the same time.
If i were you i would have a word with Dave at DVA Power. I dealt with Dave a lot over my 19 year working at Piper Cams, what he doesn’t know about the k series isn’t worth knowing.
As well as the “packages” he lists on his web site he has been involved in some serious K engines, i.e. Over 240bhp ! It is nine years since i left Piper so forgive me if my knowledge is now a little sketchy, but from memory the standard vhpd cam only gives 10mm of lift but on our flow bench the vhpd head was giving optimum flow at closer to 12mm. Meaning more lift = more power. Dave may have done some back to back work comparing the standard vhpd engine to a similar spec engine with BP285 cams.Talk to him…
