I am just about ready to take the engine out and was wondering if it is best to leave the heat shield and manifold on. It looks a real struggle to get the shield off then the manifold must have to come out underneath. The car is just on stands so there is not much room underneath.
If the manifold is left on do you then wrap straps around the engine.
I am hoping to get the engine and box out next week then its off to Daves at the begining of February. While its there I can tidy up the engine bay just done the bushes and painted the wishbones.
I can get a fire system from a rally car but the bottle is too big to fit in front of the passenger seat, I thought about mounting it in the engine bay and then run the cables to the dash is that a good idea.
If so I would remove heatshield (fiddly to get off, but not too difficult) and leave manifold on to remove engine - as rear manifold clamp/bracket to block is a bit inaccessible whilst engine in the car.
Managed to get everthing off now so hopefully get the engine out tomorrow.
It was really tight to get the manifold and heat shield out. I took the filter mounting off, of cause the last bolt was the one that someone had put a cap head in that you could not get a key into. Then the oil cooler connection would not come off at the pipe. Its all off now so I,m sitting in front of the fire with a bottle of wine.

Lol they are all like that - 3 bolts that are easy to get at and an allen key head that you can’t get at without the oil union being removed
