having a bit of grief with car.
i had my ecu changed ( revised engine map with lower cam lift) and my standard airfilter replaced with a TRD unit. after it i was travelling back to scotland and stuck in a 40 mile-50mph limit, my engine management light came on, i was unable to stop as there were no turn off, i eventually stopped at sctoch corner. i’d already done about 30 miles with it on, so decided to carry on as suspected it was llamda sensor possibly chocked up as i’d sat in 6th gear. it was problamatic all the way up til darlington where i went up the back roads to scotland. as soon as i went on back roads car response back to normal and after few stops engine management light went out.
i never bothered about it as assumed it was a llamda sensor problem.
i have since done over 6000miles around scotland, very enthusiastically without problem, but unfortunately had to go down south again, where it all happened again on the motorways.
i went to slotus dealer, and their diagnostic said it was the throttle position sensor, but i never had this problem on the scottish country roads, or before i got ecu and filter done, is this more a symptom than the cause ?
any help greatly recieved
What car S or NA, who did the remap, how old? Cheers
it was dont at christopher neil outside manchester, they swapped it with a different ecu as i couldn’t wait a week for it to be returned from lotus it’s a 2006 N/A.
i guess i’m just asking what determines the condition of throttle position fault.
is it engine revs in a certain gear or is it pure and simply the feedback from the pedal.
it just seems really weird that it never once came on again all over scotland, yet after 2hours driving on a motorway it returned
Had a similar situation on my 2007 (06 build) NA Exige when in France last year. Equally I have the revised ECU and TRD fitted. I assume yours is same with FBW throttle
I just couldn’t predict when the engine management light would come on. Sometimes it would stay off for only a few miles, and at other times it would stay off much longer… such as coming back all the way North from Dover on the motorway.

Had the Pedal changed and have not had the problem since (touch wood)
I bought an Elise a few years ago , on which the previous owner installed a non standard air intake system. Neither the dealer or I knew this , and the cars engine warning light kept coming on ( it went back to the dealer 20 or so times for diagnosis on their system) and different faults were diagnosed on their computer… It continued to happen till we found out that similar Toyota engined Elise’ had the fault , and going back to a standard induction cured the problem , never to reoccur !!!
I think you will find that this is a problem with the Throttle Position Sensor.
Mine does this every now and again, car seems sluggish and won’t accelerate past 60-70mph.
It has always cleared itself up but a new TPS will probably be needed at some point.
cheers.
