Anyone else encountered this? - is there a way to fix it?

Is yours an early standard S2 ?
If so they came with a gas strut with no clip on it. The later cars have a red clip half way down the black gas stut that hold it open.
Mine was replaced free by lotus. The only down side is the new one is slightly shoter than the original but at least it won’t get blown down onto your head now !!

yes mine is an early S2, haven’t noticed a red clip on the gas strut. I just wondered if it was possible to re-charge the strut somehow, as it seems to have lost some of it’s functioning.

lotus might replace it free of charge as it was a known fault on a part that they have since upgraded.
