Engine cover release cable snapped

Well just had a fantastic day at Goodwood. Weather brilliant and now I know why I keep that little silver plastic car - even though I find it difficult to use as much as I should. Despite the driver “talent tank” running a little low on at least one occasion, man and machine came away unscathed and the grin factor was very high. Ironically, on getting home, when I went to open the engine cover to retrieve helmet etc, the cable snapped, I’ve managed to carefully wedge open the cover enough to retrieve my jacket and keys, but wondered if anybody on here knows of any tricks to open the cover without the cable.
cheers,
Stu

If its snapped on the door end take out the drivers side rear arch liner and give the cable a tug from there.
If its the boot end i have no idea but would like to know just incase it happens to me

Thanks but I’m afraid it’s the other end. I can see the broken end moving when I pull the lever. With careful positioning of a piece of wood, and not too many scratches on my arm I can just about reach the mechanism, but cannot see (guess?) which way the latch movement needs to move. If anybody can take a look at theirs and let me know, I would be very grateful.
cheers,
Stu

Take the N/S wheel arch liner out and get your arm and head in the wheel arch. You will be able to reach in and pull the leaver. You’ll need to take the seats and rear bulkhead plastic out in order to get to the nut on the back of the pull handle. It’s not a bad job really, the cables about 18. You may not have snapped the cable! It may just be the nipple on the end has come off, if it has it will be in the back storage area somewhere.

Many thanks - sounds like a good plan. Looking in through the cover , I think you may well be right about the nipple coming off as well.
I’l get to it next w/e and update you on progress.

Just to close the loop on this one.
Diagnosis and recommended remediation were spot-on!
Managed to open the engine cover via NS rear wheel arch and yes - the nipple had come off and was lying in the boot.
Thanks a lot!
pS: Took the opportunity to remove some of the loose gravel while I had the liner off. Most of it is from my own drive, but it’s possible that some of it was from a brief excursion at Goodwood last weekend

Yay!

Brief excursions at Goodwood can be dangerous!

Re; Goodwood. Actually I was lucky, spun onto the grass at the last part of St Mary’s. Cold tyres and even coder brain. Totally my fault - got back to the pits, and after some very wise words from John the chief instructior, thoroughly enjoyed the rest of the day.
