Can anybody tell me what the smaller of the 2 cam cover breather pipes does…as far as I can tell nothing is coming out of it even if I block off the larger one.
Cant believe it is only for decoration.
Clive, they both to the same thing! Vent fumes/pressure from the cam cover.
One runs to the TB and the other to the back of the TB box.
I just ran a pipe from each over the top of the TB and down to a MOCUL oil catch tank that I mounted on the LH side of the baggage area!
This stops all the oil ‘mist’ gumming up the TB’s etc. Best 100 mod I did on the car!
Thanks Pete…I was checking to se if my engine was pressurising itself due to a possible ring prob and noted that at low revs cam cover is venting out of lge pipe and when reved this reduces significently but nothing at all comes out of the small pipe at any time.
If it does not do anything then it does not need a catch tank pipe.
BTW I believe some of the lower rated VHPDs only have 1 vent anyway>
If you take off the cam cover and have a look inside, one of the two pipes has a gauze to collect the worst of the liquids before getting to fitting, the other has a hole about 2mm at most, rather than the 8mm ish that the fitting suggests.
Can’t remember which is which, but on the race cars, we run them both to catch tank, remove the gauze and open the hole up to the maximum size that we can. Plus run a separate external breather pipe from the crankcase to the cam cover. Downside is that you can only really do this when striped due to needing to drill and tap the block.
Thanks for that…I will try drilling it.
I tested for venting from the dipstick hole . Very little “Vent” at high revs,…but engine was not under load of course.
Does not look as if I have crankcase pressurising as far as I can tell.
Have you still got your leak?
Yes Pete hence the search for the reason.
PITA to fix
Still in negotiation with the supplier.
Am even thinking about the 260 Cup car for sale locally!!!
Poor you Clive… yes that is a PITA!
260 Cup. A brill piece of kit! That is without doubt the one I would have bought had I been able to stretch that far!
Had a very good look at chrisexigegt’s one… carbon everywhere… MUCH more than JF’s car! AND the 260, accusump, 308’s, 4 pots etc etc…
When you start adding all these bits up, it makes them VERY good value IMHO! AND I suppose you are getting something a bit different to the standard Exige S!
As you saw at Donny, even these have plenty of performance! And none of the worry/hassel abuot the VHPD etc!
There comes a time of life when this is worth quite a bit too!
Would love to be able to warrant chopping mine for a 260Cup great value as you say…

Thanks for that…Have done the job, I guess it doubles the volume of air that can now pass through.
As a matter if interest tried running engine without dipstick and there was not very much venting even at high revs. This was without load of course. Would load produce any more pressurisation??
… That would depend how heavy she was.
Finally found this one of my old set-up Clive
Like the red bits but might clash with my Orange.
