Emerald M3D / manifold gains?

Hi,do you have an idea what gains can be expected from a change to an Emerald M3D system and a proper remapping of an otherwise standard Exige engine (fitted with sports Cat and racing exhaust)? What do you reckon a better manifold (EBD for example) could do?Thanks for your answers!Nikolaj

I’m prepared to be contradicted, but I seem to remember people reporting that an EBD manifold didn’t yield any greater performance than an Exige manifold on their Exige.I’ve heard people with Elises switching to an Exige manifold with good results.I think proper ECU mapping would do wonders, as I gather the Emerald ECU is far superior.Don’t forget you’ll invalidate your warranty.

the ebd manifold stays as separate pipes longer than the standard one before reducing down 4-2-1…this is said to produce/release better low and midrange torque.

Hi Nick,I’ve fitted an EBD manifold and Emerald unit to my Elise160 (it used the same manifold as the Exige). The result of the manifold is that it has smoothed the power delivery noticeably - The 4-2-1 config of the Exige manifold is different to the EBD (Shorter primaries) and it will give a similar max power. However the mid range is improved by the EBD noticeably. The Emerald has transformed the driveability of the car. Ticks over now at 900rpm, before it was a very lumpy 1250 ish. It doesn’t hiccup or splutter below 2000rpm and above that its just much smoother. It’s a massive improvement really. I have a spreadsheet somewhere of an Exige in standard form, and the same spec VHPD engine with an EBD manifold and an Emerald unit. The gains are approx 15lb/ft torque in the mid range!

Thanks for all the answers! Rich, is there any chance of giving me more info about that spreadsheet you talked about? Do you have the possibility of scanning it?In case you do: [email protected] you very much indeed,NikolajPS: Anybody else any opinions / experience on this subject?

I have a few questions about the Emerald ECU that maybe you guys could answer… My car is going to have the Lotus 190 upgrade soon but if this is much better, I may reconsider…How much is the Emerald ECU?Is it a worthwhile alternative to the Lotus 190 kit? What BHP do you get with just the Emerald ECU? And with the EBD too?Do you still need the cam pulleys+thermostat?Cheers,Tony.

Nicki believe that there will be a gain from the Emerald and the gain in the midrange torugue from the ebd.You should know that the ebd doesnt have a flexisection and that is the problem of that manifold. Either it rattles like the qed and blow thru or it can desroy the holdings of your exaustsystem, because of the enginemovement- you have to change them from time to time.i used to have a qed and changed to the exige one.I noticed a difference between these two.I have lost low range torgue but i won a better performance from 5000 on.The car is now running 5+ KM faster. As Simon S said nobody races with that manifold…
