Has anyone else experienced problems with the cool Aluminium-bell discs from Eliseparts ?I’ve gone through 3-4 discs (on different bells) in just 2-3 track days (using RS15 pads). Each time they seem to have warped. Not good at all.[This message has been edited by Admin5 (edited 14 July 2002).]
not a nice news…What is the answer from Gaery?cheersNicolas
David - sorry to hear this especially as I have them fitted myself but with no apparent problems. I know that they are always noisy but have assumed that this is a feature of the Padgid pads - will have to check when I get car back. I guess you noticed through feedback under braking or was it a visual inspection of the disks? Are we just talking about the fronts or the rears as well?
I noticed a wobbling of the steering wheel, and a juddering through the brake pedal. Changing them for a mate’s Elise discs and the problem went away. This is for front discs only.I’m using Pagid RS15s all round.
Mine are beginning to do this as well, although its not very bad at the moment. Will report further after next track session. And I do leave the handbrake off after each run, and only have Geary’s disks on the front.Cheers
What a shame, they looked really good.Has Geary made any comment yet?David, why did you have to change the bells?Cheers, Ian
quote:Originally posted by IDG:David, why did you have to change the bells?Because I borrowed a complete set of discs with bells attached, from a mate. These were well bedded-in discs too (couple of thousand miles).I’ve not spoken to Geary, I will do today. I’m not on a witch hunt about it, but I’d like to know why they keep failing.[This message has been edited by Admin5 (edited 15 July 2002).]
Geary thinks it may be because I’m using magnesium wheels which may not be transferring enough heat from the discs…Although my old (Lotus) discs lasted ages with the mag wheels, so I’m not sure what’s what.
My Lotus disks had the same problem, although its happened far quicker on Geary’s. I have probably done 14 sessions / races with the disks and bugger all road miles, all with standard Exige rims.Got a whole day testing at Silverstone coming up so hopefully we will see where they are at.Cheers
Having spoken to Geary some more, he’s been kind enough to let me have some new discs on the understanding that I bed them in properly and very carefully !!Last night I spent 2 hrs trundling around Milton Keynes (the roundabouts help) dabbing the brakes and getting them sorted.Hopefully they’ll be OK for today !

How did they get on David? If okay, do you think it was your new ducting?Ta, Ian [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif[/image]
They seemed good. It was a short track day (just 2-3 hrs) and I was still bedding them in for some sessions, so I never really gave them death… but they seem to be OK now.I’m less keen with the RS15s than the RS14s. The RS14s had great initial bite, whereas the RS15s feel like they need to get a bit warmer before working as well. Not sure if the ducting helped, but it wouldn’t have done any harm (at least that’s my reasoning)
What is the latest feedback on RS15’s from everybody - I am getting some feedback that people prefer the RS14’s. In which case I may get some more 14’s made.cheersowen
Yep, RS14s get my vote
I’m going to upgrade shortly and from what I’ve read I’d want to buy 14s not 15s.Ian [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif[/image]
Owenif you can get more RS14@'s made can you let us know…will they be same price as before?
OwenPut me down for a set of 14s please.
On holiday next week - but the week after RS14’s will be back on the site - at the same price as before.cheersOwen
