Just a little introductory post about our Lotus Motorsport Elise. The car is owned/driven by a gentleman named Stuart Wiiliams and races mainly on our bumpy little track in Barbados. It currently holds the 2wd track record here. The car runs in the top 2wd group, which it won on it’s introduction in 2009 and again this year, 2011. It has an Audi 1.8T with a Garrett GT3071 turbo, using VP Racing Q16 race fuel. Boost is normally 1.8 bar (26 psi) and 2.2 bar (32 psi) push to pass. Standard 02M Audi 6 speed gearbox case with dog engagement gears, LSD, and a sequential shifting mechanism (converts the H pattern). Tyres are Goodyear racing slicks with 9.5" wide (240 mm) at the front and 13" (330 mm) wide at the back.
The car has to weigh 2,070 lbs (940 kgs) to conform to our regulations, so it carries over a hundred pounds of ballast.
Below are a few pics of the car with the new body setup for the 13" wide tyres and some vids of it in action.
Videos below. Unlike our competition we were still running 11.5" rears at the time of these vids.
Vid of our Easter race meet handicap, where the cars start depending on time, so the big cars start more than lap behind some cars. It’s from a spectator camera, so language and Bajan accnt may be colourful…
BTW, I could as well mention it here just in case, we are looking for a S1 right side rear motorsport upright (hub carrier). I posted a wanted ad in that section.
JSRacing were the last folks to have any uprights. I’m sure John or Sean will will be along soon to correct me if that’s no longer true… [/quote]
Azrael, thanks for the info, but I should have mentioned I already contacted JSRacing. From searching this forum I found out JSRacing might have the last uprights. I have been in contact with John, who has been very helpful, and as mentioned below they only have left side available.
SeanB and thommo, Thanks to you and everyone else for the positive comments…
jfk, the noise is actually the car in front, not the Audi. We call that car the RX38 (an Mazda RX3 body shape on a RX8 chassis), and it runs a methanol feed 20B rotary engine. It is very LOUD!
Podger, thanks for the info, I’ll drop them an email and keep my fingers crossed.
scoob and Benja,
M7EXG Yep, the track’s very adrenaline packed. Overtaking is very difficult if the cars are evenly matched, but it happens quite often in the lower groups and occasionally in the higher groups. It looks dangerous, but in reality that track has been around for a long time (over 50 years), and to date (as far as I know) there has not been a fatality, and very few serious injuries.
Below a quick shot of the interior. As you can see it’s more function than form…
Just a little update. During the recently concluded Easter race meet, the Lotus broke the overall track record at Bushy Record that was held for 5 years by the top 4wd. So a Motorsport Elise now holds the overall track record in Barbados…
Here’s a cool short vid with some good footage from the day. Unfortunately there weren’t many of the cars in the top class out that day → Bushy Park Easter 2012 Vid
Amazing that a consumer grade DSLR/Glass can get results like that (with no small amount of skill too of course). A few years ago getting results anything like that would have been $$$.
Benja, You had me going for a minute, I was like DSLR what type of car or part is that? Then it hit me… he’s talking about the camera… Yeah man, that was some sweet camera work and editing by the guy.
