I would mount the fuel pressure sender on a remote as well. Those senders are quite heavy compared to the amount of thread that is actually holding it in the pressure reg. At the end of the day, if that thing fractures after a load of bumping and bashing around, you are gonna have a really bad day.
The remote mounted oil pressure sender. I always mounted these below where I took the feed from the engine, so that the line to the regulator would bleed itself. With it mounted higher, you will have air in it all the time, which could lead to inaccurate pressure readings.
Mounting the fuel pressure reg upside down. I was sure I had read somewhere that it wasn’t ideal to mount the type of reg you are using upside down. I have just had a bit of a look on the web, including downloading the instructions from the website and I can’t find anything on it, so maybe I dreamt it. I can’t find anything that says it is OK to mount it upside down either mind. I’m sure it was something to do with fuel sitting on the diaphragm all of the time leads to premature failure when mounted upside down. But like I say, maybe I dreamt it.
Looking forward to seeing you in the bar on Thursday night.
Fuel pressure - yeah while it’s remote to the engine it doesn’t screw in far does it! I have some AN3 line, I’ll stop by think auto next week and move it adjacent (have left slack in wiring for this)
Oil sensor - yeah did think about where to put it a lot, and really packaging won here as the exhaust and main oil line kinda forced my hand. Lets see what the logger shows on this one, if it’s crap I’ll move it onto the subframe.
Fuel pressure reg has been like that for about 2 years, and I did google at the time to see if there was any no nos. Unlike a say a pump, where they don’t like to be sat impellar up as fluid can then run down the shaft into the motor, no such advice on the FPR. Also it seems to remain pressurised to 30psi when the engine is off due to the check valves in the pumps, so I’d imagine that’s a far greater force than gravity. One day I’ll change the rail to a flow through type and mount the FPR up on the head I think.
I don’t know why I had a bee in my bonnet about the reg. I even sent an e-mail to ‘fuel lab’ to ask them after i typed my post. They came back with all is fine which ever way you mount it.
