Electric boot

My S1 Elise boot has jammed up to the point where I have to unscrew the pull handle to open it. My thinking is electric operation shouldn’t be too hard fit an electric actuator (maplin code YD79L Maplin locking motor ) and wire it to a switch on the dash. But, when I opened up the spare switch I found it was wired up does anyone know what this is for and what it is connected too? If anyone has done this before any help will be greatly appreciated

which “spare” switch are you referring to?

Do you know that Eliseparts already to a KIT

didn’t know eliseparts did a kit but looking at the kit I am using the same actuator and all for less than 10 the “spare” switch I refer to is the switches next to the steering wheel you have sidelights, lights, fog, hazard, and spare what was this designed to do ?

I’m guessing that you are not the 1st owner of the car - the final switch you refer to was originally just a blank, i.e., there was no actual switch. if its now being used then it must have been used by a previous owner.

the spare switch you are talking about should be for the driving lights or what you may call front fog lights

There is just a blank switch but behind the blank is a connector, I am not the first owner 7th as it turns out and the car has the optional front fog/ driving lights fitted but these come on when full beam is selected. The stereo was wired in rather badly and I have just repaired that does my car suffer from ropey electrics ? Does anyone know where the eliseparts electric boot switch is mounted?

does my car suffer from ropey electrics ?

well other than your radio your setup sounds like normal so I wouldn’t worry about the electrics generally.

mine takes a fair bit of pulling to release it. Is the motor strong enough or more importantly is there anywhere strong enough to mount the bloody thing!

The actuator has 6lb of pull or push my thoughts for mounting are :-
there is a small flap to the right (and left) of the boot latch it is rivited onto the bodywork i was thinking about replacing that with some aluminium the same size with posibly a small bend for strength and mounting it on that.
I would still like to know what that switch is for (in the service manual it is described as a spare) I would like to know before I start modifying it.

All fitted and working a treat if anyone wants to know how to do it I will do a write up and send some pictures. and it cost less than 15
