I have just returned from a trip to the Eiffel region of Germany to a place called Daun. Its around 20kms from the 'Ring, or 100kms from Spa. The event is the Eiffel Rallye and its an exhibition of rally cars from the 1960s to the modern ( ish! ) times.
There are no times, but some drivers are most certainly more “on it” than others. However its great to see a variety of cars out there.
Talking of the cars some are origianal cars ( Lancia S4 for example ) and some are recreation ( see the Audi S1E2 varients ). Some are officially backed by teams others are in private hands.
What is great about the event is that its access all areas in the town and although somewhat more limited in terms of stages there are plenty.
Outbound trip
Not a whole lot to report. We went from Hull to Rotterdam on the ferry. The monotony of a motorway schlep was eased by being a passenger princess in a Range rover. Typically a Dutch windmill was spotted, then miles of motorway and some funny signs. Once at the hotel it appeared other enthusiasts and teams had booked too!
Entry to the park ferme is effectively free. To visit the stages its €35. We arrived on Thursday afternoon and took a little drive into Daun where we went to buy tickets.
However, we found some cars. In fact , quite a lot of cars. You can walk upto them and look, take pictures but of course be respectful and not touch.
So thats the statics done. The actual event was over 2 days and multiple stages. We cant get to all stages due to some being closed. I typically found that the afternoon events were more exciting than the morning. Perhaps that was due to the stages we chose. Either way, it was a real spectacle.
