excellent

I would not be pleased with the rpm 8769 is an engine braker and Lotus would tell you where to go if you tried to get an engine off them. Mate of mine did exactly that - he had to buy a new engine

Is that not the rev limit, or is it an over rev from a down change: I’m a little confused as I rev 'til the shift light to stay on cam and can’t see what the problem is?

The rev limiter is there to stop you over reving the engine if you buz the engine by an incorrect/early downchange then the engine is forced into over reving or buzzing. A rev limiter cuts fuel limiting the engine. If the engine is forced by the wheels to rev higher cutting fuel will do nothing.

thanks jamie, I always wondered how you buzzed an engine. You live and you learn …

Its usually an expensive lesson if you have to learn it firsthand

Just to put this into perspective the friends engine was buzzed at 9200. From what I have heard anything over 9k is very bad news anything under you may be luck you might not.

8769 isnt even close to blowing it up… that’s just tickling the limit… the block is designed to ‘burst’ to 8800rpm for short periods of time (1 or 2 secs). Nothing in that printout would have been held against me in the case of a warranty claim (thats from the horses mouth)… however the rozza’s might have been questioning that top speed given that the last time I was anywhere other than a public road was …

Lotus have had several warranty claims doe to buzzed engines. AFAIK they have imposed a limit of 9000rpm. Buzz it over that, even under warranty and they will not pay out a penny. A bloke on Seloc blew up his engine after buzzing to about 50rpm under the 9K. Those 50 rpm saved him 7000.

To be clear are you rev limit prints in gear or not?

in gear i believe

they log the top 5 revs and then check it at services no?

so they are achieved with ‘normal’ running around eh exigeboy

i’m impressed that they log the number of hours run in each rev-range and also show how many hours run the engine had done at the top 5 max revs… cool but scary if youve been a badun…

i’d love to know how the ECU defines a ‘standing start’ of which i apparently have done 4

I would imagine it times your 0-100Km/h time and anything under 5.2 or something is deemed as standing start?

Probably used to invalidate a clutch warranty claim?

Perhhaps we should all go get a print out done and get a little comp going on who is the baddest boy out there…
