Duratec anyone

Anyone on here converted :crazy:confused:?

Not aware of any Exiges(UK), Clive.

My understanding is that up to 250bhp is relatively easy, but above that it gets quite expensive, & also bear in mind the Rover gearbox is retained.

Steve Williams’s race Elise certainly goes very well, & he, & Sinclaires too are geared up to carry out the conversion.

Be interesting to know the costs of getting up to 250bhp… I imagine SteveW’s car has had a fair bit spent on it if the standard 2.3 conversion only give 200bhp ish

there was of course the really nice installation in guy evans’ nitron race car. lots a dosh and 275 hp, if i remember correctly.

as mr.p noted, the g’box ia a weak link. without a nice quaif application, more dosh, it could end in expensive tears at the g’box end of things.

what about a nice downgrade to standard elise k series. they dont seem to have any problems… or so much fun.

Standard 2.3 engine is 205 bhp with almost as many torques.
Gearbox ??? but SW claims std box is slow but sufficiently tough to withstand the added power …
We will see…

Go for it Clive!

Yep, from what I’ve heard, gearbox is good for 250bhp, but not heard of anyone going beyond that (apart from the Nitron car, which I would not regard as representative).

Must admit that if I ever decide to ditch the VHPD, I will take a long hard look at the SW Duratec option. brand new 2.3 litre engine, 205bhp/196lbft all in for 9k - less what I could get back for my VHPD. Looks tempting, especially if you’re not looking for silly HP  I also don’t have a problem retaining the PG1 box, it works just fine!

Neal.

Clive, Neal,

Now if we can pull together a group order, how about we procure us some of these beauties?

3.0ltr 75 degrees V8, 500bhp, normally aspirated. 90kg’s

Clive, as we were discussing, we should be able to steer with the rear wheels once these little suckers are installed.

Ok, I’m going to lie down now and have a ziz.

Nick

Nick, do you think you’ll be able to get one for 9k??
That really would scare your wife!!

Alex

Keep the VHPD - without it its not a genuine S1 Exige - blimey they’ll be taking the roofs off next

It’s my desire to keep it original that has stopping me doing an engine swap, but I must admit that the thought of a nice un-tempramental Duratec or Honda is very tempting sometimes! I had a Honda in my S2 Elise so I know what a difference it makes and I do find the Duratec option quite appealing.

The acid test will be it’s up-coming trip to the Nurburgring at the end of July ( SELOC Forums ) - If it ends up coming back on a flat bed then it’s out with the VHPD and in with the Duratec/Honda

As for taking the roof off… never… it’s not one of those girly S2 Exige’s

Nick PLEASE stop sending me that PORN :astonished:…I hate it

I just love engines of all kinds and that looks orgosmic

However as I have declare my devotion to the VHPD I am staying ORIGINAL. but please dont ask me to open the engine cover next time we meet.!

Silverstone on Monday???

Cheers

Clive, looking under your perspex cover will become a ritual from now on! I wouldn’t want to find any foreign entities in there!

…but on a serious note, I’ll not be up next Monday. I’m in the middle of quarter end, and the city must take first fiddle this time. :frowning: In spirit…I’ll be there in spirit though.
