Well what a cracking weekend and such a great laugh. Just thought best to post some pics and let thommo do a far better journalism job than me
Very Noice!.
Great pictures, Peter and much more skilled than I at uploading.
Here are a few impressions of a great weekend among Lotus fans and other Exigers to whom I apologise for not giving a name check.
DRIVING the swooping, swerving, roller-coaster roads of the Borders, it wasn’t hard to imagine Jim Clark at the wheel of his nimble red and silver Lotus Élan, 997 NUR, heading home from the Grand Prix circuits of the world.
To see the everyday car used by the 1963 world champion drive up and down the main street of Duns in Berwickshire was to go back in time to the year that the sheep farmer from just up the road at Edington Mains won his first title.
And that’s what hundreds of Lotus owners and fans did at the weekend as they gathered to pay tribute to the modest Jimmie Clark and to remember his achievement fifty years on.
Exiges. Com had a healthy representation with 6970K (Steve Bestwick); Mr Pesky, gp_fisher, yours truly and diehard Lotus enthusiast Geoff Cole from Nyloc all heading north of the border to indulge in some motor racing nostalgia.
After a dull and wet start on the Saturday as cars and displays were set up, the focus was on Sunday with road cars from every decade of Lotus history lined up in Duns opposite the Jim Clark Room where an extraordinary collection of his trophies and memorabilia is housed.
A minute’s silence allowed enthusiasts of a certain age to recall their own memories of Clark before the contemplative calm was broken by the rasp and scream of the Coventry Climax V8 that powered his Lotus 25 to the 1963 championship. Minutes later the title-winning Chassis R4 was flying up the crowd-lined street, between the lines of classic Lotus, followed by R5, a car he also used.
Fans were treated to the sight of the green and yellow-striped 25s squirming off the line, racing to the top of the street, past houses and shops which more normally overlook the passage of tractors and trailers. A quick u-turn and back down the street to the chequered flag and into the hands of Clive Chapman, Clark’s mechanic Bob Dance and Classic Team Lotus.
Also making the 200 yard dash were Jim’s racing Lotus Cortina, his Elan -chassis No1- and a Lotus 23 which brought back memories of his epic Nurburbring sports car win.
Later, roadgoing Lotus of every type and colour moved off from their carefully-arranged parking spots to drive to Chirnside where a wreath was laid at the grave of the man whose mentor Ian Scott-Watson said on Saturday: “He was so modest, he just didn’t realise what a genius he was.”
Try these for size. Told you I was no good at uploading. Pictures are right way up this time, I think, but when I previewed them on another site the slideshow was partly obscured by the smaller images below.
I’m sick of iPads, IPhone, Photobucket and computers in general.
Edited to say: I tried this link, same thing happening.
Your link works fine Thommo.
Great weekend guys, sorry I missed Sunday.
It wasn’t all sensible Lotus stuff though. Pesky made a new friend in the indian.
Nice write up Steve T thanks for doing that.
Saturday night was hilarious, still can’t stop laughing and the curry was great too.
Next time we go to the Fish Restaurant lets hope they have more T T T T T TURBO Rob.
A brilliant trip - massive thanks to everyone involved. Great to meet up with with the Exige clan from North of the Border.
Will post some pics later, but here are a couple of video

After raving all weekend about the wonderful driving roads of Scotland, I hit the road south from Duns to Kelso and on to Selkirk.
It was one the best drives I’ve ever had in the Exige. Long straights, swooping curves, tight right and left hands, the lot. And then came a surprise. On the B709 I rounded a curve and saw a black and white building on the left. Familiar, I thought, so I stopped and only then realised that the first and last time I’d seen the Tushielaw Inn was when I was cycling from Land’s End to John O’Groats in 2002.
As I was thinking of the beer me and the cycling chums downed, a 911 pulled up. Turned out he was a former Exige S2 owner and a member of Sottish Elises who was leading a run out but had lost his flock. Then with a roar they turned up,Caterhams, a bunch of Westfields and at least one Elise.
After this brief encounter it was off down the B709 and I noted that the closerI got to England the road surface got worse until the aptly named Bentpath where I hit the worst series of potholes I have ever encountered. No chance of swerving to avoid and I feared serious damage. No punctures or bent wheels, thank goodness but I’ve lodged a claim with Dumfries and Galloway Council for an inspection, geo, and suspension check. Let’s see if they pay up.
Take a look:
Steve - blimey!
I think I met her twin on Saturday night…
Bet her head doesn’t come off so easily though.
Just let find those pics . . . .
On Friday, we had a most pleasant journey up with Pete & Caroline. After a coffee break at Bestwick Towers, we stopped in Hawick for lunch, where Jim helped out…
.
We then headed off to Berwick Upon Tweed, where lunch finally caught up with Pete…
I was very pleased to be “upwind”…
10 minutes later, decorum was restored (fortunately only 6 low flying seagulls had perished)…
On Saturday evening, Yvonne (Wallsy) arrived (along with hubby Gary) to join us at the curry house, where incidentally the food was great…
Then we went to the curry house . . .
Car is looking good Yvonne
