Dumbass newbie questions...

Hi all,

I’m looking to replace my car soon, and the S2 Exige S is currently sitting at the top of my list.

Now, I’ve done a few forum searches for answers to my enquiries, but to no real avail. So…

Firstly, is there a general buying guide anywhere on the forum? Secondly, does anyone know how many S2 Exige S have been produced?

Many thanks,

Zac

Hi Zac. I’m also from down your neck of the woods (South West) and seeing its your first post welcome!
With regards to buying an “S” always go on condition never the amount of miles it has on it! Don’t know how familiar you are with other websites but pistonheads and Seloc will also have a wealth of info on them.
If and when you find a car you like get it inspected if your not too sure on what you are looking for. Don’t get an AA or RAC inspection as they will know very little about Lotus cars. You will be better off getting it looked at by a main stealer (dealer) or by a specialist. Sportomotive are not too far away from you (salisbury) and have a very good reputation as a specialist. There are two main stealers about equal distance from where you live but i would not use either of them. Having first hand experience of one of them don’t use them and the other does not have a good reputation either!
Always wait for the right car would be my final note. have in mind what colour you want etc and wait for the right one to come along. you really dont want to pay out large sums of cash for something that that is not quite right. Oh yes…haggle real hard, as i expect you know its a real buyers market.

Welcome!

I looked at Exiges for a year before I saw the one I had to have!

Haggling did’nt do me any good at all though cos it was very keenly priced and the seller really did’nt want to part with it …

Cheers Mr Shaggy
Totally happy with my Chrome orange 2006 “S”

Worries so far that I know of on S’s

Clutches
Accident damage
Central locking can play up
heater fan resistors

Otherwise they seem quite strong

and Laser Blue is the best colour

My 08 S gave up its petrol cap lock leaving me to break into the petrol cap to refill.

Other than that its been 100%.

Bugger! Shouldn’t have posted that

At least he drives the friggin thing on track, rather than spouting about donuts/lsd/intercoolers & Yorkie Bars

Only kidding…but you knew that anyway

…I may mod but then I have to go get peeps like Sean to get it sorted

Thanks for the replies lads.

I’ll also be testing the Porsche 911 Carrera and the E46 M3, although I’m not fond of being lumped into the stereotypical bands that either of them fall into. Ultimately it’s the car that matters, and it’s principally a drviers’ car that I’m after.

As for the Exige, I like all colours, though I’m swaying towards the Storm Ti’ and black. Concerning moderations, I’d like to say I’ll be keeping it standard. However, I don’t think it will have enough power for my liking, so I’ll more than likely end up upping the ponies.

We’ll see in time. I’m in no rush to buy, especially as I’m mid-way through an engine rebuild in my current car.

Neither of your other 2 choices will deliver any more punch than a stock 218bhp S - I have had both and the Exige is far more spirited than the e46 and is on a par with the 911 up to the ton. Mine was an 997S at 355bhp and having driven a mates 996 C4S (similar power to a stock Carrera?) - I reckon the e46 was about similar?

Bypass the pair of them (and the teeshirts), save yourself a fortune and go for the Exige (you would hear that on here though I suppose?) - I have way more fun in my Lotus

I’ve had the M3 and had a 987S - the Exige exceeds by far.

“I’m swaying towards the Storm Ti”

I like your style!
