I thought the rev limit was lower than that on the Audi’s ??
It is on the std ones That engine made 208bhp @ wheels.
It’s a very strong and reliable engine if Built correctly and most importantly Mapped up correctly. Our local drag race team swear by these engines and in the road legal class are pushing over 500BHP constantly on the standard crank plus an aditional 100-150 BHP of Nitrous. Water pump, oil pump and block all remain standard as well…These cars are used on the road and get severe punishment…To date no failures in 3 years of running.
Would love a ride in yours when you get it finished Chris… pick my S1 up this weekend !
They are very good engines, it wouldnt worry me to use one in my Exige but i would change the valves i know of 6 or 7 engines to have this same problem (most on track). The std ones seem to be ok for around 300 ish bhp in turbo form.
It was the revs that killed mine but that engine was built back in 98/99 before there was much info on what to use and what weak points the engines had.
Thinking back, we fitted some plugs that had the word 'turbo’on the package, (probably fiat uno), in desperation, not having the real thing, and when I looked at them afterwards, the earth electrode and most of the ceramic had gone on two of them.
Our fault, not the engine’s…
These days I use NGK Iridium BKR7EIX plugs and they are sweeeeet !!
Incidentally, the car did a 1 min 21.489 secs best lap round Donington in the October 2005 Mid Engined series, finishing 5th, in the more than capable hands of Russ Treasure.
hey mike thanks for the advice re breaks…
