Off to Nuremburg this weekend to see DTM at the Norisring. Been before and it is a great city, rebuilt perfectly after the Allies flattened it in WWII. A great place for a race around Hitler’s old stamping ground. (Look out for race highlights on ITV4).
Meeting up with my eldest son who works for Adidas just outside Nuremberg. Sadly the youngest won’t be able to join me as planned - unless he can find his passport in the next 24 hours!!
The drinks rounds will be cheaper without him but it’s a real disappointment as he’s great company.
Sounds good, hope he makes it!
Thanks Jonny… We’ve searched everywhere at least three times… No sign of passport so I’m flying solo. May be a useful lesson to him to keep a grip on such important documents, although I suspect his ex has it despite her denials.Life can be so complicated.
Have a great trip Steve
This happened to my son. In summary I arranged to meet him in Portsmouth in my RV, ( he lives in London) we reminded him not to forget tickets and passport( we were going to Le Mans)… YES YES said he I know etc etc etc
Met him a the arranged time AOK , I insisted on a final document check before boarding the ferry, him no passport !!! after much argument , and ’ I know I packed it ’ He phoned his home to be told he’d left it on his bed in London.
A plan I thought , so I got him to hide in the RV toilet as we passed thru various custom checks, got through OK
On the return journey we put him under a pile of open sleeping bags, and dirty washing in the rear bedroom , got through OK !!
Moral of the story … Your never to old to listen to your parents !!!
I wouldn’t like to try this plan now , with body scanners, anti terrorism measures et al…
You’re a braver man than I am Podger to try that trick. Well done.
Right, I made to Nuremburg minus the youngest. Watched a great day’s racing/qualifying in 35 degree heat. Had a great night out in the lovely old city with eldest son and his g/f. Lots of weissbeer and sausages.
Storm clouds+thunder/lightning curtailed our night. Hoped that it would bring a clear and brght Sunday but no such luck. Rain, drizzle and more rain. I was quite prepared to watch race onTV but the lad said:“Come on you old fart, pull yourself together”. So I did and was rewarded with an exciting race that ended with Jamie Green claiming victory after a last corner last lap overtake on Martin Tomczyk.
I really recommend DTM if you fancy a trip. Check out the DTM.com website for dates. The enthusiasm of the German fans is remarkable - as is their dress sense!
