In the coming year am looking at doing a fair few track days and have previously used gt4 on ps2 for learning the ring but using the remote isnt any use so looking at getting one of them simulator seat units, looking at the logitech g25 system for use and after someone to make me a frame up similar to this
if anyone fancies a challange or know anyone that could do it on the cheap? i would be looking at using a bucket seat or a old lotus seat so if anyone else has one of them it would be great,
I would recommend using an Xbox 360 + Forza 3 + Microsoft steering wheel. Actually Forza also allows you to use a clutch enabled steering wheel and pedals. Forza 3 has an excellenet representation of the 'ring and you can choose nearly any car you like.
Out of interest, how much is that frame you posted ? bet its not cheap.
Sorry, didn’t wanna be a thread killer. I actually drove it more than once. Its the moving base road simulator from the swedish road traffic institute. But even this million pound machine didn’t give a very real driving experience. We used it to investigate how drivers would react to active steering ratio changes. They use it to let drunk and sleepy people drive
Anyway back to subject. I recently drove the Xbox and 360 MS steering wheel in combination with the game “Need for speed shift” at a friends place. I don’t like computer games but actually was surprised how good the ring was presented. Most of the corners, angles etc was done very realistically. Only on 2 spots it was easier than in real.
Get yourself down to your local Unistrut supplier (or download a catalogue) a few steel drill bits and spanners and you could easily knock something up, may not be as pretty but would do the job.
I’ve had a go in the simulator at McLaren a couple of times and that is awesome. 7 secs off Darren Turners fastest lap of Barcelona. I’m sure its probably one of the best simulators and as close as I’m going to get to driving an F1 car.
Is this the type of driving stimulator you were after

There’s nothing like a good drive to clear the cobwebs out of your head, as the open road at night is a wonderful experience, just speeding along, enjoying the power of your motor. Well now you can enjoy it in a whole other sense, with the vibrating car chair providing simulation to your more, erm, sensitive areas. I’m not sure this would be to good for your road safety, but it certainly would make those traffic jams a lot more pleasurable.
There are 4 massage points in the chair, and similar to in car seat warmers they uh, heat up slightly. It brings to mind the phrase, ‘Is it hot in here. No, that’s just me…’ Enjoy.
I got my playseat on offer for 220 from gameseek and the g25 for 100 from play.
I play gt5 prologue and need for speed the latest version. The force feedback on the g25 is great.
