I’m taking my S2 over to Italy this spring and I’m wondering what I do to adjust the headlights for european driving? I can’t find anything in the handbook about it which is a bit weird but I’m sure quite a few of you have been over to europe and have got them sorted, any ideas. Yours puzzled of Pickering!
There is a page in the hand book that covers this. I have not got it to hand otherwise i would post something for you.
(Well there was one in the book I had for the S2 111s & my S2 Exige)
It’s very easy.
- Take wheel off
- Undo 3 bolts holding light assembly on
- Remove light assembly from front of car
- There is a small metal lever just infront of the main lens. This will need adjusting
- Refit light assembly and put wheel back on.
Job takes 10 mins per side.
I spent nine days drinving around Europe last summer and didnt bother touching the lights. IMHO its more hassle than its worth unless your going to be doing alot of night driving! cheers Ed
Thanks guys, that’s what I needed to know, I’ll get it sorted…
Cheers, Pete.
I know it’s a bit late but have only just joined. You will find that depending on the age of the car Lotus have changed the design to a sealed unit which requires complete new light units for converting to drive on the continent. I think all 2007 year model cars and on. Mine was registered on the 1st Sept and I have had to change the light units for Europe.
Bit late,i take my S2 to europe on a regular basis,500 mile run always at night, handbook says adjust thro wheelarch aperture which doesnt exist on my car!I use gaffa tape on headlight cover.no complaint from crap french drivers .no damage to cover from adhesive
I use gaffa tape on headlight cover.
you can get stickers from whatever automobil club you have? . Maybe you’ll get the stickers at the french custums as well?
These stickers look better than gaffa tape anyway, but gaffa tape is ok as well
btw. if you plan to visit Switzerland, let me know
you know, I’ve just looked in the wheel arch and I can’t see the panel or the 3 screws. Does the liner have to come out or have I got the non adjustable lights…? My Exige is a 55 plate…Pete.
A 55 plate will have adjustable lights. You need to remove the wheel then remove the wheel arch liner (2 screws at the bottom and one at the top). You then have to remove the plastic front light cover (3 allen head screws I think) and then there is a small metal flap in front of the light unit that slides up. This then makes the beam dip flat. It normal takes about 20 minutes to do both sides.
If you have a reasonably short screwdriver, you should be able to do the job without removing the wheels.
do you have to change them at all?? im going to germany in may, in my 07 s2 exige… what happens if i dont change lights for europe??
You can’t adjust 07 lights to dip flat. You need complete new light units which is pointless unless you are going to be staying in Germany for any length of time. Mine cost me about 400 and took me about 40 minutes to change.
Don’t bother, mate of mine (who shall remain nameless…)drives an english s1 here for years without doing anything to the lights.
He has been stopped by the cops (who just wanted a butchers) and they said nothing…save yourself the hassle…its not like the exige lights are bright are anything…

Like the rest of us S2 owners…
No need to get personal. You’re asking for a visit from Uncle Punch
