Now that winter is here maybe it’s time to practice indoors !
Just bought Toca Race Driver 3 for the PC.
I use it with steering wheel and pedals for added realism.
I have to say that games have improved beyond all recognition in the last few years.
Once you progress you “unlock” different circuits and cars.
Currently have reached the VX 220 and have raced at Oulton,Donnington,Croft,Silverstone,Snetterton among others.
Having been to Snetterton in the Exige last weekend I would say the game is very very close to how it is in real life…
The game was only 10 !!
pgr4 on the 360 is bloody wicked. If you ignore how fast the cars accelerate, its very realistic with the microsoft steering wheel. I learnt to drift on it … it was surprising how natural it felt when i took my BMW to oulton’s drift school thingy. The Nurburgring is also worth a special mention on it as well.
If you want the absolutely most realistic and best online racing experience, you need LiveForSpeed.
It doesn’t have real tracks and only a couple of real cars - the rest being generic things but don’t let this put you off. It has road cars, caterhams, a vx220 type, single seaters up to F1 and GTRs
I’ve tried most pc games (yes I am a geek) and this is the only one that never gets boring, it’s very realistic.
Also, it’s pretty cheap, 24 I think. There is a demo though which gives you a few cars and the ability to race online with no time restrictions or anything like that.
For absolute realism you need this game. Lewis Hamilton was interviewed by Allan Henry in AUTOCAR just recently about what inspired him to race. The article went on to ask a number of questions such as how best to out brake an opponent, pin point precision overtaking and chiefly to what he owed such kills. He went on to say that you can almost feel the G-forces upon you while actually playing the game. Off the line I tend to agree that keeping the car in a straight line is nigh-on impossible and hitting any apex is nothing short of a miracle. He too had the steering wheel thingy-bob and gear jobby. Anyone who plays this game will definitely agree that it can only improve most if not all of your driving skills the more you… play
