Drilled or grooved disks?

I just have ordered a big brake setup. I have the option for drilled or grooved disks. What to do and why?

Regards

Quirin

Grooved

Less likely to crack, able to handle thermals better

But thats just my opinion

Grooved, better durability (less cracking), better heat management potential (grooves move air).

Find me a race car with drilled discs

Well believe it or not I just use the std lotus drilled discs for racing, 20 minute stints they are fine…

Tried AP’S and they dont seem to last any longer or really give any substantial benefits over the std disc for the extra cost… might aswell chuck the cheaper ones on and replace when needed (in fact I have a set of ebc slotted discs on the back thnk they where even cheaper again at about 140 for the set).

Grooved is where I’m going next, cracked my AP’s :frowning:

Have you not got the Lotus Sport kit Ade ? Thought they were the AP grooved ?

I do have the Lotus kit and it is drilled, I spoke to Lotus motorsport and they can supply grooved but don’t as standard as they don’t match the rear drilled discs…

Lotus choice not mine I hasten to add

Tarox do a bigger disc with grooves and cross-drilled holes.

Uses larger pads in the stock callipers. Works well for me.
