Donington yesterday

Albeit a bit short, I had a great evening last night at Donington. Was good to meet up with the usual suspects (Mike, Andy, Shaggy)I think I had a faltering alternator (it kept flickering on under acceleration) which meant the fuel pump wasn’t at full tilt, nor were the sparks… so I was down on power a fair bit.It was the first outing for my brake ducts (I’ll upload piccies of it in the main forum later) and they seemed to work a treat. That Ultima seemed to blast around the track at a fair lick !

David et alSorry not to make it, but glad to hear you all enjoyed yourselves [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/grin.gif[/image]The Ultima was driven by none other than Ted Marlow - Company owner! We’d “have” him at Anglesey, if he came along though! [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/wink.gif[/image]

My alternator has just gone for a 2nd time- within 500 miles of the last replacement!I know it’s under warranty and all, but its a pain in the butt when you do a track day and then get towed home by the AA.I reckon it must have something to do with the heat from the engine and/or exhaust manifold - you could roast a chiken with some nice roast potatoes in there its so hot!Am giving some v serious thought to putting on a motorsport Elise engine cover, solid but with the louvred vents, to make the engine bay much cooler.I think the alternators plastic internals are literally melting away.Anyone got any other suggestions? (Sensible answers, Pesky!!)

(IDG, the alternator already has a heat shield IIRC)I’ve just created a thread in Questions + Answers for this topic (regular visitors may not read the track day threads)Here it is: CLICK HERE[This message has been edited by Admin5 (edited 20 July 2002).]

Hi all,Managed to get to Donny on Thursday (sorry it’s taken me so long to get on but I’ve had a busy weekend at Mallory) but hadn’t arranged insurance so signed on as a passenger!. Thanks to Martin and Steve, and David (allright so it was down on power but it was still quick!)for rides in Exiges for 83boy and me and thanks to Anthony for 83boy’s blast in the Maranello.BTW David’s car seems to cope well enough on the Yoko 048 even with the turbo power and they seem to be much cheaper, so that may be the way to go…?Regards to all,Mike

heatshield on order from Geary! FAB!

Admin 5How did your 48’s perform?

MikeTrust me, get them next time you need/want to change tyres [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/wink.gif[/image]

Rob, have you got them as well? how much and are they as good as the 039 in wet conditiones? I soon need another set…too many UK miles done…bugger…later,Bruno

Yep Bruno, Russ & I are running on the 48s [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/grin.gif[/image]So far they’ve been fine in the wet, but to be honest I’ve not had chance to push them really hard so far. Oulton Park on the 31st July will be their first outing on track [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/grin.gif[/image]We spoke with some of the Lotus Motorsport guys at Hethel recently, & they were very proud of their development input, & end result with the Yoko team. This was not official “bull****”!!!

Allways trust The Peskmeister!
