Hi guy’s
Does anyone have a Quaife straight cut kit in there S1 Exige. I’d really like to hear one for myself before installing one in my car.
Thanks in advance.

Ive got the Quaife top three close ratios in my S1.Noise is not a problem.
Straight cut, or semi helical, Dave?
I reckon that straight cut are bloody noisy for road use, especially on the overun, but no problem on track - had one in a Caterham 15 years ago.
I think Fluffy is right to try one, before taking the plunge. However, Fluffy, why go straight cut, as opposed to semi helical anyway?
Straight cuts are much better in race car, stronger and less gearbox losses, however for a road car they would be very very noisy. The novelty does where off quickly. For a road car that sees track action far better to fit close ratio or ultra close ratio helical gearbox.
Hi Mr Pesky,
The straight cut are more efficient, stronger and Quaife only make the ratio’s in the straight cut option. I’ve been looking in to this loads lately and the 3rd 4th 5th option is ok but when you use a gear ratio calculator the rev drop doesn’t seem right. With the 3rd 4th 5th option I would also have to shell out on a new final drive to get what I want.
I don’t want a full on track car, I want to keep the car as original as I can but loose all of the things that let the car down.
With the straight cut option you can keep the same final drive and the gears are in the oil so i’m hoping it wouldn’t be too loud but I’d like to see for myself.
Thanks for you help so far.
