Does a NA exige need upgraded toe links?

Question is as the title really. The car does a few track days each year and I run ao48s. I am not super fast and I check the links for play regularly.

I know upgraded links were “must fit” on an S1 but I believe the design is better on an S2?

You tube videos of cars spinning with broken links are mainly s2 cars, which probably answers my question.

There is a rear ‘track brace’ available for the S2. Recommended if you are doing a few days per year even though you check your car regularly. Running over the kerbs only heightens the problem.

One version was a standard fit on the S2 S Exige, but there is a better motorsport version available from Lotus Sport for not much more money.

I have that one. One of those worth while safety mods.

The S one is an upgrade of the N/A and is not an absolute to upgrade whereas the N/A one should be upgraded

Having had my NA Exige for 6 years
and with 48k miles on the clock
and that I do 1 or 2 track days a year
and I have never heard of upgraded toe links

Do I need therapy or toe links, bearing in mind I dont want the ride any harder than it is now ??

Therapy, yes :unamused: If you are a good boy and take it steady on track and do not use the kerbs, then ok you have got away with it. It doesn’t affect the ride at all, the toe links just help share the load when cornering. A toe link failure is a bad thing as it means total loss of control, usually in a corner, and as luck goes probably the one corner on track with the least run off, so expensive too.

If you regularly check your suspension for play/wear you may have many more incident free years. The upgrade kit offers great peace of mind for not alot of cash* IMHO.

  • Yes, i am aware of your status of being a Yorkshireman and have factored that into the above

I am going to get the Lotus kit. It looks easier to fit than the elise parts or elise shop kits (no drilling required). It is not as pretty as the Nitron kit from seriously Lotus but is much cheaper and I tend to drive my car on the track more than admire the suspension. I need to have the geo checked anyway so I will get it done.

Yes you do and so does everyone else!!

How much is the lotus kit?? I have seen the cross brace with inner joints at about £420.00 + vat but you still use the standard outer joints :frowning:

Just checked, you are correct. About £120 more for a full Nitron kit.

no brainer???
you know it makes sense!!
