I want to replace my diffuser with a larger one in alluminium anodised in silver (like maddog used to make), but sadly all my enquiries have failed. Does anybody know who is making\selling any at present?
I had the same issue, couldn’t find anyone selling one. So have just finished making my own. Its being powder coated at the moment so can’t take any pictures.
I drilled out the rivets on the old one, flattened it and used it as a template and extended various parts before using a jig saw to cut it. The sheet aluminium was cheaper than i expected from a proper metal merchant.
and no i’m not interested in making another one
Thanks for the info, sadly I have zero ability in being able to make something like that but do you have any plans of what you cut out? then I might be able to get it made by someone
It really is very simple to make.
Drill required to drill out old pot rivets. Then hammer to flatten out old diffuser (or you could stand on it). Then lay on top of new sheet of aluminium and draw around. (15 for a big sheet of aliminium)
I extended mine by 6cm so that it just comes out just further than the exhaust (2bualr gt3) so moved some of the lines back 6cm.
Then jigsawed along the lines. drilled holes in correct places and bent. then used a pot riviet gun (20 inc rivets) to assemble it all back together.
I had quite an enjoyable time doing it and a lot of satisfaction.
(i didn’t want the fins coming down any further than standard so just placed the side tunnels 6cm back.)
Took a complete weekend to do but only cost me 30 -40 max
Any local metal fabricating comapny would easily be able to make it up in a caouple of days but they will cahrge you a fair amount for a one off.
Powder coater is hopefully doing it today for 20.
If your near Derby your welcome to come and have a look at mine at some point and i’ll talk you through it.
Chris
Sadly no where near derby, but some pictures would be good when it is fitted, might try to ger a second hand one to pull apart to use as a pattern
Actually some pictures when finished but before it is fitted would be good to
Where did you source the aluminium from?
I got mine from Eggleston Brothers in Derby - they stock all types of metal.
I’m sure most places in the country have a similar company.
Let me know what you need Will, I could quite easily get my hands on a sheet or two, could get it powder coated also. I know a bloke who knows a bloke…
